OK...I just don't get it.

This will open a can of worms, but I can't take it anymore. I'm not a raceist. This has nothing to do with race. This has to do with a travisty of of the judicial system. CBS news just ran a story about an illegal alien who presumably provolked a German Shephard who then attacked him. The Illegal sued and got (I can't remember) amount of money, and the dog was ordered destroyed. People have cried in outrage over this and it's being called an "immigration" issue. I have no problems with immigrants, in fact I thrive on diversity and believe it's a good thing. But the key word here is IMMIGRATE. Legally! Illegal border crossings are not "immigration". Immigration is a legal process. Admittedly, the first settlers from the Mayflower came here without invitation and the rest is History (we'll not get into the history book version). However, there are now and have been laws and rules for coming to this country for a very long time. There is an established Government here. Respect that. Americans have to abide by other countries rules and laws when visiting or becomming residents of that country. Tax payer money paid the lawyer's fees, my gut tells me this...(it wasn't reported if it was or not). I feel bad that the man was attacked by the dog. However, lets start at square one...he was here illegally, therefore he shouldn't have qualified to be represented by an attorney, he should have been deported. Anyone in this country illegally should not have access to services designed to aid citizens of the USA. There should not be programs that serve people who are not legal residents of this country. My relatives came here legally. They paid the price to live in a free country, and to partake of the American Dream. When the American Judicial system protects someone who isn't even legal to be here above the rights of it's own citizens to have a dog to protect itself and the family who cares for it, then there is definately something wrong with the system. Ok flame away... I can take it. But my stand is that if you aren't in this country legally, then all bets are off. You suffer, you have no recourse. If you are here legally, then by all means, if you feel wronged, do something about it.

I dont know the whole story but I dont understand how an illegal immigrant can sue? In Australia all illegal immigrants live in hiding. They dont have drivers license, they dont have bank account, they cant even rent a house. They work and get paid cash under the table by dodgy employers. The minute they come to be seen by any law reinforcer they get detained and put into a detention centre to be trialed. If they lose the case they will be deported.

I'm not a filthy rich celebrity who can afford to just up and leave this country who's standards have transended our own constitution. I live here in the USA...I abide by it's laws. I may not always agree with everythinhg, but I'm thankful that I have a "legal" right to speak out if I don't agree. Thats because I'm a legal citizen.

Redd, If you watched it on CBS I'm sure their twist was favoring the illegal who provoked the dog in the first place. There are burglars who break in houses , then fall and hurt themselves who sue the homeowner. When CBS conducts a poll they do it with The New York Times. Need I say more ? w

Number one -- anyone who provokes a dog deserves anything they get (from the dog or owner- try messin' with one of my animals - it's not a pretty site)... Number two -- the illegal should have NO damn rights at all and I resent MY money being spent on a defense against anything for him.... Number three *** Most important -- instead of bitching here - WRITE your senators and congressmen and STATE your complaint THERE!!!!! Then if the s.o.b.'s don't do something VOTE them OUT!!! Hugs BD

| That goal is getting harder to achieve every day because with all their illegal votes watering down elections, we the citizens of the USA are just getting dunked in the tank by our worthless politicians scabbing votes.

"In the first place, we should insist that if the immigrant who comes here in good faith becomes an American and assimilates himself to us, he shall be treated on an exact equality with everyone else, for it is an outrage to discriminate against any such man because of creed, or birthplace, or origin. But this is predicated upon the person's becoming in every facet an American, and nothing but an American...There can be no divided allegiance here. Any man who says he is an American, but something else also, isn't an American at all. We have room for but one flag, the American flag... We have room for but one language here, and that is the English language... and we have room for but one sole loyalty and that is a loyalty to the American people." Theodore Roosevelt 1907

Sum of 'them' killed my girfriend a few years ago....and I think they sorta got away with it !! There was sum sort of festival at this campgrounds and they were leaveing and stopped at a 4 way stop which they apparently didn't understand since none of them spoke english and doubt they could read to understand signs. So the friend was on back of a bike and it was there turn to go but the alien types kept creeping out to go at the same time....(alot of traffic that day cuz of the festival) so they ended up smacking the front of the bike enuff tryin to EDGE out and caused the bike to flop onto it's side lightening fast. My friend was holding a dish she had taken to a picnic and never even had time to throw up her arms. She did a face dive onto the pavement and died at the scene. None on the bike had been drinking or anything wrong. Freak accident but STILL.....it happens alot on this area ! One with a few alias's just got killed in town. He left a bar/resturant my friends own and got himself into a pickle with sum brothers that stabbed him sumwhere else then tossed him in a field and caught his body on fire. (creepy) The bar's business is suffereing cuz of it. (They served him but he was known to have a drinking/drug problem) At the bar/resturant he was acting ok tho. Since he had two names they just put them both down at the funeral......duh. Our town is goin to hell in a jalipinio bucket Pam (ragheads own all our hotels and dairy marts and gas stations.....why is that.....why do they own all of them and what's there interest or plan ?) Sorry not tryin to be racist here by any way......K ????

The quotation attributed to Edmund Burke, "The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing" still holds true. We have to make our concerns known to our elected officials and make them hold the line. (I hope you have better luck with ours than I have with mine here in the "Peoples Republic of Illinois".) I haven't seen or read the story. I'm a dog owner. If my dogs attack someone (except of course, someone entering my property without permission) I am liable for that. I don't care if they attacked Hitler himself...if I am wrong, and not controlling my dogs... I am liable. Pretty simple really.

I read the art icle about the gardner and the dog. The family admitted that they should not have had their dogs out as they were very agressive towards starngers. The gardner in question took a position behind the owner for protection which prevented him from receiving even worse injuries-as it was, he needed almost 200 stitches. The dog owner's insurance company settled with the gardner for $350,000. The gardner said that he did not want the dog killed but that his owners needed to control their dogs. The gardner is here legally, from south America. He is here legally and trying to attain the "American Dream". Please make sure of your facts before going on the attack. LindaM

http://abcnews.go.com/GMA/WaterCooler/story?id=3940538 Quote:An 85-pound German shepherd has become the unlikely face of the immigration debate in upscale Princeton, N.J., after a judge ordered the dog to be put down for attacking an illegal immigrant last summer. Thousands of people have flooded the Internet and even petitioned the governor to ask that Congo be spared for his attack on Honduran landscaper Giovanni Rivera, who was injured seriously in June and later awarded $250,000 in insurance money. And while New Jersey Gov. John Corzine has denied calls for a pardon, some town residents are upset the illegal immigrant was allowed to collect monetary compensation for his injuries. "Too bad Congo doesn't work on the border patrol," one resident wrote online. "Maybe there would be less illegals entering our country." Another poster called Rivera "illegal scum." Rivera has called the attacks racist and political. "We've created a subculture in this country right now. The illegal alien is like a subhuman and that's a dangerous precedent," said Rivera's attorney William Garces. Not all Princeton's residents believe the incident should be used to fuel an immigration debate. "I would hate my hometown and home state to go down in history as the place where suburbanites value their dogs above their lives of those they hire to tend their yards," one resident said. Even Congo's owners, Guy and Elizabeth James, said their case has nothing to do with immigration. They claim their dog was provoked by Rivera. "They hit my dogs. They grabbed my wife and that's what this case is about," Guy James said. Currently Congo is living at home, and the James family has appealed the local judge's ruling to put him down. The case now is with New Jersey's Superior Court. |
| Although the TV news failed to to metion the man was working for the family, the article does state he was here illegaly from Hondouras. So I have my facts straight.

| There are differences and probably more concerning the circumstances but $350,000 is different from $250,000, Honduras is not in South America, illegal and legal status are different, too. I'd hardly know they were both the same story if I read them separately.
