I guess Massachusetts knows more about parenting than the parents.  LMAO!  Will OR or CA be next?

This above says hitting, but the article is titled "Lawmakers To Consider Spanking Ban"  WTF???  No shit a parent shouldn't hit their child, but I'll be damned if anyone is going to stop me from spanking!  I think this is what is so vague.

I really hope this doesn't come to fruitation in MA, because then it's gonna probably spread and then I'll have to leave the country. Angry

hey big brother come on in. I'm using too much salt in my soup.
I watched my granddaughter grab the side of the wood stove, daring her father to do something. They dont spank their child. Its a good thing the fire was out. I had no problem dropping the diaper and warming her a$$. I had no problem giving them the lecture about pain and pleasure. I had no problem telling mother there are times when spanking is prudent. I have no problem with doing it again. When the law takes common sense away from the parent, are they going to be responsible for the resulting juvenile delinquents that respect nothing and no one.?

I think a good solution is for the lawmakers is to have some common sense beaten into them Grin

When people have way to much time on their hands and don't have to work to feed them selves they start sticking their nose into other peoples buisness.  The same thing applies to lawmakers.  They have an easy life with no worries and way to much free time.

There is a difference between hitting and spanking.

I dont hit my kids.  But you can be damned sure that if they do something that puts them or someone else in danger I will spank them and get thier damn attention.

When my daughter was 2 and tried to put her hand up on the stove while i was cooking and the burner was hot. She got a spanking and got her attention and she never did it again.   That is spanking.  Withthe diaper as padding, you can be sure that it was her ego more then her butt that got hurt.

At 10, she decided that it was ok to push her bother intot he street while we where walking to the mail box.  I got her attention then as well.  "But we where just playing..."  "Well I wasn't"  Again it was her ego more then her ass that got hurt, even though she was embarrassed because a kid from school saw it happen.

I think a better solution would be to throw every single incumbent at every level of government out on their ear. No matter who it is, if it says (inc.) after their name, vote for the other person. And never, ever, ever, vote for anybody who is running unopposed. Write in your own name if you have to.

My son Andy has never ever been spanked by me. NOT because I dont know it to be a correct parenting tool, but because he just never gave me any trouble.

HOWEVER, I would have spanked him any time he needed it, I just got lucky to have such a good boy to raise.

Hows come people today think that they need to go around: 1) invading my rights as a parent....2) re-inventing proper child raising rules for parents (rules that have worked perfectly for thousands of years) and 3) empowering unruly kids to use stupid laws to thwart sincere efforts of parents  TO PARENT !?!?!?!?

Here in Mass all it takes is "ONE" person to ask for something like this to be made a law....and by Mass law it has to be at least voted on.....One fucking person!

They took a vote a few years ago about seatbelt laws, the people said fuck you...no law!

The state said, no, fuck you....heres the new seatbelt law! (Now its a fine for no seatbelt, can you say insurance company payoffs?)

Also a few years ago someone wanted fluff-e-nutter banned.....THEY TOOK A FUCKING VOTE ON THAT!!!!!!!!!!!! (It was a fucking pol that asked for that one.)

Every time I turn around there are new laws against something that works or makes sense. I can't remember the last time that I saw a law allowing or for something.

No wonder we have the largest percentage of people in prisons. Bear in mind that it's not just stupid laws but this a considerably less free country than when I was a kid. It relates to drugs of course but it's all over the place.

Spanking is GOOD! Parents should apply it more often as well as other parenting skills and the damn government should stay OUT of it!!!

I went to pick my little Caleb up at school one day and the principal was all a-flutter about a mark on his arm. I told her it was where I BIT him! She really got her panties in a wad at that. I was NICE about it and told her, "He bit me first!" Before she could react, I let loose on her and told her to call anyone she damned well pleased, but that's HOW you stopped kids from biting and if she had any common sense she'd know that (and a few other things). She blinked first, but I was ready to go to court on that one. And Caleb DID quit biting.

Until parents stand up to the damn government about raising their kids (and start taking some "responsibility" for their kids, the government is going to keep making these stupid laws and we're going to keep having kids growing up without a clue as to how they're supposed to think and act (or who they're supposed to respect).

I think voting everyone out of office who's in there now is a great idea -- I've been voting against incumbents for years, but that takes more than ONE person.

Wouldn't it be great if, come next Nov., we wake up and find a whole NEW Congress with a LOT of independents? Of course we couldn't get them ALL out cause some of them aren't running, but WE could clean house of some of them....  awww to dream....

When I went to school, it was the fear of punishment that prevented me from doing all the stupid stuff I wanted to do (and my friends tried talking me into). I might get in trouble at school, but it was NOTHING compared to what would happen when I got home.

I'm afraid that's more or less gone these days. Now moms and dads have more fear of what might happen to THEM if they were to effectively punish their kid.

Funny thing is, after awhile, dad didn't even have to raise a hand. All he needed to do was give "the look." To the day he died, I still feared that look.

Who is behind it are people that do not have enough to do to fill their lives.  They are usually middle-upper class people that either do not have to work or get paid to suck off the public teat.  (read: politicians.)  When people don't have enough buisness of their own to keep them busy, that's when they start sticking their nose into other peoples buisness.

It's people that take everything they see on television as gospel. There is less violence against everyone today than in history. It doesn't seem that way of course. It affects us all and the impulse is to fix everything by overburdening the justice system with legislation. Somehow people think that you can legislate perfection and morality. It ain't so....never has been.

My other gripe is that kids don't pay much attention to old dad because in mindless sitcoms, dad comes across as a lovable but incredibly inept goof and the kids too often have the upper hand or have to show the way. The kids are depicted as smarter than the parents. It's pretty hard to be an effective parent with this kind of entertainment.

I just read an editorial in a local paper that we have a problem with our "seniors" in high school these days. The Texas Board of Education has JUST discovered that these kids aren't prepared for colledge because they can't "read, write or do math" -- JUST NOW DISCOVERED IT???? My Lord!!! I told them that years ago! Guess they had to do studies on it!

But they're working on the problem in the high schools! Now how silly is that -- the problem is in the GRADE SCHOOLS!!! What are kids doing there if they're not learning to read, write and cipher? Isn't that the BASICS of an education.

I just wrote my "love letter" to the Board and told them they need to come off their PHD's and get down to some "common sense" approaches about what needs to be done and MONEY ain't where it's at.

When our son was in grade school (and high school - and college), Bill and I sure knew if he was learning to read, write and do math and just how much he was learning because we were doing homework at night with him. And if we didn't understand something, we were at the school "asking questions" the next day. AND we BOTH worked!

But until parents start "parenting" nothing's gonna change.
