I was on the computer and when I looked out my window this fellow was standing there. I am 48 years old and have never seen a Coyote before in my life.
I live on the edge of town and about 1/4 mile up the road from me they did a 18 hectare clear cut. This is just one of the many animal victims that got displaced from this "progress"

Very sad! Cry

We have recently seen a bear, moose, deer and several other animals looking for a new home because of this.

just wondeered,  how long have you lived there?

i see 10 - 20 coyotes and dozens of deer everyday and im 1 1/2 miles out of the capital of kansas.

from the heavily wooded area in the pic  im really surprised you had such a lack of wildlife.

There are now coyotes in all 48 contiguous (plus Alaska).

They are generally considered a nuisance and becoming quite docile and dangerous to children and pets.

Man has traditionally been their main predator and with the protection regulations currently in place their populations are booming.

20 years ago I would have had to go to Wyoming to see a coyote.  I see them run down my street at all hours of the day and night now - and I'm less than 20 miles from a heavily populated urban area.

The dog never goes outside alone and the neighbors know not to leave small children outside alone.  My 15 year old son had one follow him home from his girlfriend's house . . . .

We have lived here at this house for 13 years and around this area all our lives. There was a new Secondary School and huge Sportplex built but away from the main road. Also Mattamy Homes are building all around this complex.

I did a little research today (don't tell my boss) and found out that the 18 hectare clearcut had nothing to do with the other developments but these people knew they were going to pass a bylaw to prevent such clearing so they did it before the law was passed.

There is no plans in place at this point for the cleared land. We are called Cottage Country here for the sheer beauty of the area so this has pissed off many people here.

In the 90's a lot of farmers in the northern part of the county sold out to developers and we had large crows in the city for years driving out other birds, now gone though.  Loud birds early in the morning and evenings.
Coyotes looked for new ground too and quite a few had wandered into the city making an ok living for awhile but they've seemed to move on now.  I was surprised to see one eating one night along an expressway entrance.

After the first year the clearcut will be more productive for the animals and will actually be a draw for them.
