Wow, that is different than Oregon.
In Oregon, you can not use deadly force to stop a property crime. You can only use deadly force if there is an immediate threat to a person.
Of course, you must also tell the person you are about to shoot them also, otherwise they can say you never warned them.

oh yeah I saw it yesterday  ..the police took forever to come, thatis why the guy went into action, I did the same but without a gun (stupid me )
someone was trying to brake into my neighboor's garage and I saw them by my daughter's window, they even back up the truck all the way to the end of the drive way and I called police but when I saw them working on the garage door...
I could not help myself and when outside and asked them if I could help them, they jumped in the truck and drove off almost in top of me, I got tag and everything and described to the police when they finally showed up (2 hours later) and they told me they could do nothing about it because they did not take anything WTF??? ,
They also had the nerve to tell me, I was very foolish because I put myself in danger confronting them, yeah maybe, but I was not going to let them get away with my neighboor's hard earned belongings (they have all their work equipment in the garage).
I hope the judge be smart enough and let this good citizen go home without problems. Just because he was doing what the police is not doing in our neighborhood (BTW I live only a few miles form where this took place).
Sorry about my rant, I just got enough of all this criminals.

LMAO... the guy needs to be in jail for murder. Even a cop just can't go shooting and killing someone, especially since he wasn't be attacked.

someone broke into the house of a old couple very good friends of us. They took everything, I mean everything..the neighboor saw them carrying the stuff to the van parked in the driveway next door, She called police, the guys had all the time in the world to take out, tv's furniture, clothing, even the frozen meat out of the freezer, tools, etc not to mention heirloom jewerly dear to them not for the value but for sentimental reasons.
The neighboor called my friend to her cell and she came home before police arrived to find her house a total mess, she called us and my husband arrived at the same time the police did...how long it took them to get there??...
Of course the guys were never found and my friend's husband had a heart attack when he found out what happened, he was at the hospital with throat cancer...
unfortunely, there are so many crimes, police is scattered in this big city...someone has to step up and do something...these criminals just go like in a park through your stuff and they get away every single time..
My car has been broken into 6 times, yes 6 times!!! and there is nothing we can do about it ..
welll, maybe there is something we can do about it...
this man did it...

On this one -- in defense of "shooting" people breaking and entering "your" property -- I live in the country - waaay out in the country - up on top of a hill and alone. No one has any reason to be up here unless invited SO... if they're here univited they might ought to have a good reason ....
Now I have a "vicious" guard dog (people who don't know me - don't know that he's a wimp) that usually scares anyone off who doesn't belong here, but if my property were threatened (or me for that matter) I'd probably shoot (maybe not to kill but I might miss the leg and really hurt someone).
I think people are fed up with crooks.. The laws are all on their side and the VICTIMS are the ones paying for the crimes. Yes, I own several guns and yes, I know how to use them and yes, if I'm threatened (or my family or property is) I will use them.
9-1-1 is the first line of defense - on that I agree, but if they don't get there fast enough - then I'm not going to let someone hurt me or take my property without a damn fight.

Same here. They loosened the laws as to who can carry a gun but not the laws about using them.
Had an employee arrive at work followed by about five police cars. She apparently fired a gun at someone's tires she felt was angered and driving aggressive toward her, she felt threatened on the way to work. A two year minimum, she got more for an adamant and nonremorseful attitude throughout the trial.
Different story but somehow she felt her life was in danger and is paying dearly for it.

Our gun laws are about to become tougher thanks to that school shooting incident.
It is interesting that the guy in question got his gun licence without meething with the cop; when I applied for one (I applied for one after dad passed away for a while when we wanted to keep his riffle), I had to meet a police officer. Mum came along and reminded me NOT to mention anything about wanting to protect the animals... 
Well, most people who know me would never believe that I have actually used BB-gun quite a lot when I was younger at our summer cottage and when my PE teacher took us girls to a shooting range, I was among the best shooters. It must be in my genes; dad was a hunter, mum was the vice president of army club at her work and was better shooter than most of the men! So yup, never judge the girl by her size.

I've heard about some states laws like that Schaan. If I am being attacked, I could not live with myself if I ran away like a little sissy. I'm sorry, that is just not in my mental makeup.
Dont feel bad...my candyass state (Illinois) doesnt allow carry. My Constitutional right, but appearantly I no longer own the right....some Govt. pricks with bad comb-overs make those decisions for me.....sigh!!!
Hey Jonny.....the guy is ancient. He's so old that if he didnt "die in jail" he would die awaiting trial or taking a crap or something

you are so right Matt, all my hubby's family are from up there and the 4 times I have been there we stayed at the hotel...I think it was better for me ( I did not know the people that well I felt more comfortable having my own space) but he tought it was rude not to be offered to stay on one of the 7 "relatives" places  ...I guess because our home is like a bed and breakfast ..we love company so much! but not everyone is hospitalary..and I am not from Texas  .

Rosy, I grew up with similar hospitality thing: if you're family, you're more than welcome to stay over. I've noticed that the word "family" means different things to different people. I have a huge family and that's not only due to mum's 8 siblings... Then again, I was bit hurt when Timo's brother came to town and I was invited to be part of the siblings get together for the day, but while Timo was asked to stay over the night at his sister's house, I wasn't. I showed me clearly who are family and who are not.

Wow... that 911 call recording was intense. I feel for the guy... he had already decided how to handle it before he called 911, and you can tell he would have been fine if the police showed up quickly enough to apprehend the criminals. I don't think he did anything wrong. Those criminals put themselves in harms way, and they sure got it. No property is worth your life, but if that's true, then don't go stealing property in a state like Texas where you're likely to get shot.
