Kudos to the Apple Store

We ordered a new Apple MacBook laptop the other day. When I went to get it at the postal drop yesterday, I picked up the box, and immediately realized there was something wrong--it weighed nothing. We'd received--an empty box. I made sure the postal drop people witnessed me opening it. Whether an empty box was shipped in error, or whether it was stolen somewhere along the line, I do not know. I do know that we contacted Apple right away, and submitted a claim. Within 24 hours, they had another laptop on the way, and shipped it overnight. No hassles, no question, no charge. Hard to beat customer service like that. If they didn't already have a customer for life, they certainly have one now. Not trying to float a phony testimonial or anything. Just a bit of good news in the wilderness of bad customer service out there. Best, George

I'm on my 3rd powermac g5, the first two took a major crap.... each one in the shop for at least 3 months... I spent in total 4 1/2 hours on hold all total to customer service during the "FIX THIS" sessions... eventually they replaced each piece of junk... The one I currently own has the intel processors in it... Keeping my fingers crossed.... So far it runs like a dream... I can't even hear it... EVER! Oh by the way ... if you have not spent the extra cash to get the Apple Care extended warranty... do your self a big favor and get it pronto. I hope you have good luck with it! with warm regards, Tony

Interesting that you had such problems with yours, Tony--we've had Mac's at home like...forever...and never had a single problem with any of them. Ellen's G5 eMac is a beautiful thing--solid as a rock, and uncrashable as far as I've seen. She's running Tiger on it. She wants to wait a few months to load Leopard, until it's been on the market for a bit. Tiger works very well for her, and she says she doesn't want to mess with a good thing. The MacBook comes with the Intel processor, and it's loaded with Leopard. We'll see how that works, I guess. I do know that we've stretched our poor old iBook about as far as it will go. Best, George

I have a PowerBook G4, and I absolutely love it. My boyfriend just was saying like an hour ago that it is "my baby." He said, "I could kick your tv over and you wouldn't even get out of bed, but I go near your laptop, and you're leaping over the bed shouting, 'DON'T TOUCH IT!'" haha For the record, I do let him use my laptop - I just am very overprotective of it!! (And my privacy!! Not that there is anything bad on my laptop - only that it is mine.....and I use it for a lot of writing!) Once you go Mac, you never go back.... I will never own a PC again! We were at my parents' house last night, and my brother was home from NYC - he has the same PowerBook that I have, and he had the new Leopard OSX on it. He also had iLife '08 - and it was amazing the things he could do!! I would love to save up to buy a new Mac Laptop, but I'm just paying off this one - bought it with a 24 month interest free credit card from CompUSA. My grandpa worked for IBM for over 30 years, and even he is considering buying a Mac as his next computer!! That's saying a lot!! Hugz, Carrie

| I see the problem George, despite the engineering feat something that light would be hard to keep on you lap. It is hard to understand how it got out the door at Apple, but probably so much automation in shipping, one step was missing, the computer. oops. That deserves good service, no less. Glad they easily complied though without a single further frustration setting in, one call does it all is how company's would like service to be but not at times attained.

apple hardware is becoming much better because they are using expensive pc compatible parts and its great that you can now get parts to repair things yourself but it is a small space compared to a pc..... osx don't like it myself but you can always install windows the older macs GARBAGE
