You guys are really something..... Had a call from a friend of mine this afternoon to inform me he's sleeping on my couch tonight so he can get an early start in the morning (season opens in the morning).... go figure that a couple of hours could make that much difference to the deer. And my son is about down with the flu, but is that stopping him from going hunting before daylight - no way Jose! Tomorrow night he'll be dying and expecting sympathy (yeah right - you know he'll be gettin' it from mama - NOT!), but he'll be in his stand about 4 in the morning (and this is the kid who can't wake up till noon to get anything done during the year). Oh well, you little boys go on and have your fun. Go kill the big old deer and bring 'em home and us "little wimmems" will cook 'em up and tell you what big strong fellars ya are..... Hugs BD

Maybe Sunday it'll be venison backstraps, butterflied and wrapped in Neuskes bacon and placed ever so gently on the smokin hot grill with a chunk of hickory wood in the fire for an added touch! Some glazed carrots on the side with home made apple pie and ice cream to follow. How's that for and early "Whatcha cookin" thread! Jimbowhunter

In my part of the country, the sure fire way to get a deer is to hunt comedian Ron White style. Slow the bullet down to 65 mph, attach headlights and a blaring horn. This method will guarantee a nice size deer everytime Beth..........who hopes she doesn't get a deer this way this weekend.

| Now, BD, that's not quite fair . Some of us wimmins might be out there trying to kill a big ole dear . It haven't hunted in the past few years, but there were several years there, that I hunted from opening day in October until the close of the season in January (bowhunt, gun, bowhunt). That was the ONLY time that I'd get out of bed before daylight (wasn't too bad, first stand was about 200 yards from my doorstep and second stand, was about 1000 feet from my back door). 'darlin

Brewdude The tenderloins are the small strips that run along the back inside of the chest cavity (the most, tender, best tasteing part, and not very big), the back straps run along the outside of the deer and would be compare to "chops", I believe. Very good in their own right and some what more meat to them. Mike

Other than the back straps and tenderloins we have it all ground up into venison burger and use it whenever the recipie would call for hamberger instead. The straps and tenderloin are wrapped in bacon and broiled for a few min. each side and are mmmm good. We generally save them for new years eve, anniversary, and other special occassions. The heart is very good also. I can't wait to for gun season to start so my men can get me some more venison!

Oh Lord - y'all hunt, kill and then eat poor Bambi! Just kiddin' folks - I can still remember coming home from school during hunt season and finding the critters hanging in the garage waiting for my Dad to butcher them up for the hunt camp guys. Dad kept the hides in exchange for his skills as a butcher. We had bags of tanned hides at our house. They made wonderful jackets, vest, gloves, etc. Carol
