Restored my faith in mankind

As many of you know, I work at the airport in Milwaukee. I took a break this afternoon and went to a local Starbucks to get a cuppa, and there were three men in front of me in line. Furthest away was Joe Civilian, then two Air Force guys from the 440th Airlift Wing, then me.

I overheard Joe Civilian turn to the the two military men and thank them for their service and for all that they do for our great country. I thought, "Wow. Nice gesture." I've done that myself a number of times.

Joe grabs his coffee and leaves. The military guys place their order - one for each of them and two to bring back to the base for their buddies. Four drinks total. When they go to pay for it, the barrista informs them that Joe had already paid him for the coffees.

Every once in awhile you get floored by the gratitude of others. This was one of those times.

I thought you might like that story.

Brew and I seem to encounter kindness a lot (aren't we just the luckiest??).

When I volunteered for our Little League I signed up an 18 year old "boy" who just wanted to play ball during his last summer before leaving for active duty in Iraq at the end of July.

I gladly met him at our facility and signed him up while he told me of his plans.  When he left, another Little League member came up and told me to send his check back to him - HE wanted to pay for this hero's last season in the league.

I gladly sent the check back with a note detailing what was done for him by some one who wished to remain anonymous.

It still brightens my day to think of that.

Kindnesses like this happen more than we ever think they do.  We just aren't around to notice, while at the same times, others are ablivious even when it's right in front of them.

Kindness really IS all around us.  Most are just too self absorbed to see it.

Thank you both Bill and Pat for those wonderful stories, and also, for being so aware to notice.   Kiss

An example of just one small act of kindness I do every time I go to Aldi's shopping.  Leave the quarter in the cart for the next person.  Sometimes it only takes a quarter to make someone smile.

Good story Brew !!!

I see so much jackassery these days that I sometimes wonder if there is any decency left here in my decaying country.

But, truthfully, kindness does still happen even more than we think.

It just doesn't get the newsies attention.

What sells better? a school shooting or someone standing up for the helpless?

A scandal or someone helping an elderly neighbor paint her house?

People here have done so much for me that I got alot of paddling to do to catch up.

Very cool.
I have had quite a few things restore my faith in mankind, and have also met some very humbling people that I try to remind myself of any time I go throwing a pity party.
I got it bad, but there are alot of folks much worse off than I am.
I've also learned to stop and smell the roses, and make each moment count.

Peace,
Carl
