hour and 1/2 in the car with mom

I dropped my daughter Jackie off at cheer/tumbling last Thursday night at 7:00 and told her I would come back at 8:00 to watch her for the last half hour. I did return at 8:00......with a ch coming on strong. I figured (hoped) it wouldn't be too bad. I sent her a text telling her I was in the parking lot. 8:30, she comes out to the car and asks in a concerned voice if I had a headache. I told her I did and that we couldn't leave yet. "thats ok mom" she said. So I moved the car to the far end of the parking lot and we sat there for another half hour. She sat there quietly and didn't say a word. ch has built up to a strong 9 kip. I'm hoping it was going to start going away, so I told her I was going to try to drive, but if the ch didn't start going down I would have to pull over. We made it about a mile. I barely made it into a church parking lot. We sat in the church parking lot for an hour. She has never seen me have a full blown kip 10 ch. I'm crying and apologizing and thinking I'm going to rip the steering wheel right off. She only talked when responding to me, "It's not your fault, you can't help it", "You are not a freak", "It's ok mom, stop apologizing" and "Do you want me to drive?" (she's 14 and the answer was no) I am so humbled at how calm and supportive she was. When I was finally able to drive away, I asked how she was and she said she was just scared for me. By now it's 10:00 and she still has homework to do. She never once complained or was in the least bit frustrated with me. When we got home she hugged me and said "I love you mom" I started crying all over for different reasons. Just when you think teens are self absorbed and spolied rotten, they teach you a thing or two in being supportive and understanding. Beth (who loves her spoiled rotten teenage girls)

Hey Beth, One thing I've learned over the years is that Teenagers are self absorbed little monsters until some real life event smacks them in the face. Then they respond in a mature way which surprises the heck out of us. It can be eye opening, reassuring and frightening all at the same time when you realize that they are more than just little girls with their hands out for cash or in need of a ride to the mall. I'm glad she was there for you Beth. I hope she always is. -Dennis-

Thanks for the replies everyone. The hugs have been passed on. That she had to sit and watch me go through that............it just about broke my heart. No one has ever seen me that way and I hope that never happens again. Oh and Dennis- What you have learned is so very true!! Beth
