I find the human brain fascinating, enjoy psychology as well.
This is an interesting visual test of "right brain, left brain" functions.
I can see it moving both ways or change directions by re-focusing.

Now, of course, keep in mind that the answer you receive is only as close as a simple test can provide.
The human brain is much more complex than a simple test can reveal or analyze....... however, it still is an interesting test to take.
It was fun for me to take it and then think about how left/right functions affect my way of doing things.
If you have never researched this concept, you may find it as fascinating as I have.
Personally, I think about 50/50 with the ability to access more complex characteristics of each hemisphere is the best way for ones brain to function.
A "balance" like Eastern beliefs makes the most sense to me.

Of course there is no way, without complicated study, to get a perfect analysis of yourself. But it gives a good indication I think.
Unlike IQ tests, which are way too subjective and almost worthless in my opinion, this is more thought provoking and accurate.
I.Q. is such a subjective concept that I don't think ANY paper test can really quantify.

IQ tests are, from what I understand, actually very worthwhile and accurate for children (age 7 and under), but become increasingly problematic as we age. They are almost worthless by the time we hit 14 or 15.
Interesting that the age of 7 is also described as the age of reason, where humans actually start applying logic in the solution of everyday problems. Correlation? Perhaps.

The concept or subject of Right/left is only a measure of how you utilize the hemispheres.
As an example, I am very mechanically inclined, right handed, conservative, measured, pragmatic and fairly well organized.
Yet, I am musically inclined, a definite right side function. I like art, music and creative things as well, though I am not terribly creative.
So many factors make you & I up, there is naturally going to be many exceptions.
The reason I believe 50/50 with the ability to access complex parts of each side is best is because that, IMO, would make one well suited for life's challenges....hence intelligent.
I was once told: "Ah, you'll never be good enough to be in a popular band Dave....you aren't weird or fantasy like enough.!!!
There is some truth about right brained guitarists.
Often times, they are seemingly weird or nutty.
Fact is they are very creative, much more than the average person.
There is good news about the concept tho.
You can train your brain to access parts that you normally don't use.
That is to say that if you want to become more creative, you can work on the right functions in general and see results in all right functions.
Another example is if you are right and somewhat forgetful or not on time often. You can train your brain by using "to do lists"
This simple training will actually (theoretically) somewhat improve your ability to comprehend mathematics.
I would think an expert in this field would have better examples, but it is generally accepted thinking.

I think I am like you. I like Maths and Science and I do well at medicine which needs logical and organised thinking, yet I really enjoy arts also, I used to be lead singer in a band when I was at uni, I can play the piano, guitar and drums. I also love drawing and painting.
I can write with both hands. I used to be left handed as a kid but my mother hated it and she made me do everything with my right hand, as a result I am pretty ambidextrous.
I guess that means you can really train yourself to develop more in areas you want to.

Saffy (here on the board) also plays drums.
I wanted to expound.....we all know you can learn just by simple study.
What makes the concept of left/right learning interesting to me is that if you learn something seemingly unrelated, you can improve that side on an overall basis.
As a 5 year old boy I was watching TV and a man was squatting over an anthill mound pinching ants and putting them in a bag for dinner.
I commented that he seemed kinda dumb.
My Uncle, who was near genius level but couldn't keep a simple job, asked me: "Do you think you could survive in his environment?"
I thought about it for a minute, then realized that intelligence was a very "relative" concept.
Since then, I have been fascinated with the brains' functioning.
How many times have you heard someone say: "Oh, he's super-smart cause he is wealthy?"
Not necessarily true eh?
I give you Mike Tyson
Or how "smart" someone is cause he/she is a Doctor or a Rhodes Scholar.
Now, of course, Doctors cant be total dumbasses. Nor is a Rhodes Scholar short on smarts. If they were, they wouldn't be in the top %age !!!
Thankfully they end up usually making big money, or some would not find normal life problems so easy to solve as most "average" persons do.
But it is not that easily quantified as I see it.
Intelligence is a very complex concept.
I am sure some "genius types" are equally at home learning incredibly complex subjects as well as changing a flat out on the road or avoiding adverse situations.
I personally think if one has a high degree of general common sense with the ability to learn and apply the knowledge, then they are best suited for life. Hence, functionally intelligent !!!
Just my opinion.

In the picture test, most of the time, I saw the dancer spinning clockwise. I could, with some difficulty, refocus and see her spinning counter-clockwise, so according to that test I am "Right Brain" or at least predominantly right brain.

According to the written test I am predominantly "Left Brain." I think the description somewhat accurately describes me.
So to thoroughly confuse myself, I used an animation shop program and viewed the animation frame by frame. The girl is definitely spinning clockwise. except for the one or two times I saw it spinning counter-clockwise. 
I hate tests.

I'm no expert on the subject...just like it.
But I think you may well be right about that. Timing is a function of mathematics, correct?
I suppose I should re-think that assessment.

Yeah I know Kevin. I read somewhere than a normal mans eyes usually move instinctively from a womans face directly to her chest.
Maybe there are magnets or something in them fun-bags...just my theory.

Left brain controls the right side. For you that means your kick foot. For me it's the motor hand that drives playing the bass. Your right foot and my right hand - the two most basic, essential motors of the rhythm section. It's the most outward expression of our inner clocks.

What about piano playing then ? Its actually the left hand that plays "bass" and keeps the rhythm.

Brew, thanks !!! I didn't put that together...that makes sense to me now.
I play right, but open.
Which is like playing with your kit set up right handed, but the ostinatto is played by the left hand !!!
Just opposite of a "normal" right handed player.
Not very many drummers use this approach.
I have talked to many pro and semi pro drummers and none really think it is wrong or a negative thing.
I started playing that way because I found the left hand had trouble with offbeats or 16th notes on the snare during an 8th note groov.
The right being my dominant hand had an easy time playing any backbeat I wanted.
Only thing I still work on is that left hand being too un-coordinated for complex (opinion) swung 8th note measures.
As you know, the ostinatto hand cannot just play "straight notes" for every single song.
Some tunes require the 2 of "1 and 2 and" to be a rest to give that "swing" feel we all like so much.
"Smoke from a distant fire" by The Sanford Townsend band is one I still work on.
As well as "I'm just a gigilo" from David Lee Roth.
I will get them perfected, just a matter of time.
One interesting advantage to open right handed is that I never have to get off the ride or hats when doing a simple roll or fill down the drums.
Sometimes someone asks me how I stay on the hats or ride when I have no extra hats on the right side and my rides are only one the left....crossed up arms Dave? NOPE !!! open play. The only disadvantage I suffer is that I have to sometimes take a sheet music piece and change the hand-lead on it to make it come out right.

I know really nothing about piano Annette.
I'm going to guess that some of these functions are traded and shared by the brain.
I dont guess that it is so "divided" as to not share abilities on an almost equal level when necessary.
Just my guess.

I wasn't talking about playing the piano. I was talking about pop/rock ensembles, specifically the rhythm section. And I didn't say always. There are a few left-handed drummers and bass players. Also, there were The Doors, whose keyboard player, Ray Manzarek, played all the bass lines on a Rhodes bass keyboard.
Piano players are a breed apart, Annette. Playing the piano well is way beyond playing the drums or the bass well and takes a lot more training.
My theory is that in order to be a really good bass player or drummer, you have to be left-brain dominant. Of course, there will be exceptions.
