Pain And a woman spoke, saying, 'Tell us of Pain.' And he said: Your pain is the breaking of the shell that encloses your understanding. Even as the stone of the fruit must break, that its heart may stand in the sun, so must you know pain. And could you keep your heart in wonder at the daily miracles of your life, your pain would not seem less wondrous than your joy; And you would accept the seasons of your heart, even as you have always accepted the seasons that pass over your fields. And you would watch with serenity through the winters of your grief. Much of your pain is self-chosen. It is the bitter potion by which the physician within you heals your sick self. Therefore trust the physician, and drink his remedy in silence and tranquillity: For his hand, though heavy and hard, is guided by the tender hand of the Unseen, And the cup he brings, though it burn your lips, has been fashioned of the clay which the Potter has moistened with His own sacred tears. Kahlil Gibran ( )

my wife sent me a page a few weeks ago from "The Daily Om". It went into how one's energy can blah, blah, blah..... okay, I paraphrased some. Anyways, it was some yoga-energy-karma crap and, while I practice yoga I was just in the wrong mood for it. I wrote on it and put it on her desk: what a load of bull!!!! That's what I write on this. Do you know what clusters feel like? It ain't a burnt lip and you won't be doing any contemplating when it hits, period. This may sound paradoxical but I agree with the premise of the poem and I also disagree with posting it here.

| This line sure broke my shell for understanding cluster headaches and it flew off the page. Quote:Much of your pain is self-chosen. |

| This poem is about emotional pain, not CH pain ! No one must know THIS type of pain! I agree with Scott and John, its not appropriate to post it here under the context of CH pain.

Sorry Black but for those of us who are currently in cycle and their supporters, whenever anyone mentions pain we think of CH pain. Just trying to be sensitive to others feeling and need. If you are a CHer, you should know this, because you would likely feel the same. Its hard enough to try to cope with excruciating pain several times a day to be told that you must know this pain and that much of the pain is chosen! If I say this to you while you are having a kip 8 or 9, wouldnt you feel like punching me in the nose? Maybe you could change the heading of the topic, to " a poem about emotional pain " or something ... That way people dont rush in only to find you were talking about something else.

You may think it's beautiful. That's your option. I think Khalil can suck a fart. He probably led a pampered, pain-free life. His words strike me as written by one who is full of himself.

Kahlil Gibran.... ------------------ Kahlil Gibran is the fingernails that scratch the blackboard of my inner ear. He is the crowbar who cracks the shell that encloses my nausea. His verbiage is miasma released, and his prose is the sewer-gas which endures forever. ---------------------- Sorry, Black--it's probably just me, but whenever I read something by Kahlil Gibran, I just don't know whether to shit flowers or go postal. Best, George

| I usually don't, as you can see! I thought a critique of the poetry was fair game. black posted it and told us how he liked it, so I felt it was okay to say how I didn't. Free and open exchange of ideas.

Post whatever you like. If it is offensive, DJ will delete it. Otherwise, be prepared to have the work(s) either praised or criticized. I don't see what the big deal is.
