An "adopted" son...

Dyl's friend Austin has started calling me Mom. In a "fun" way of course, he has a mother he loves dearly, but it's as he puts it, he feels so welcome and at home here. He's a good kid. He pitches in to do dishes with Meg and Dyl, and he's sticking around tomorrow for a few hours to help them with some chores since he's spending the night tonight. He's such a great kid. I'd be proud if he were mine too. But I'm honored he calls me Ma. I'm honored my son is such a good judge of people to have chosen him as a friend. We are soon off to the video game rental store to get some games for the night.

Thats kool Pegg. It's no surprise to me that your boy picks decent friends. I think he's a good kid as well. Cheers, Dave

I have several kids, male and female, that call me Mama, and these are some of the coolest kids I've ever known. I am proud of them and I am proud that my kids have chosen them as friends. Its a great feeling, isn't it?

Aren't our kid's friends grand? JrBrew's best friend is 21 and currently in the Army (MP in Germany). He comes from a staunch Baptist family. When he was home on leave last month his parents wouldn't let him see his 12 brothers and sisters unless he took out his earring and covered his tattoos . . . . He spent time with us and showed us all his tattoos, talked about how good German beer is, put his earring back in and mentioned his girlfriend the "exotic dancer" . . . I'm not surprised since he's been sheltered all his life but why would his parents treat him like a pariah?? He's serving his country and I for one am proud of WHO HE IS rather than who I "think" he should be. . . and I told him that because he was pretty bummed about the reaction of his family. He's young, he'll make mistakes like we all do, and he'll grow up to be a fine upstanding man some day.

Austin helped us get the living room re-arranged today, after he and Dyl did a ""fiziks" lab with some classmates, and came back with a Dt. Coke and Mentos experiment fountain. He's spending the night again, so I'm going to call and go pick up a huge New York Style Politos pizza. I'll finnish the petty work in here since the "muscle men's" moving of the heavy stuff is done. Off to get the kid a toothbrush and reward all 3 of these kids with the pizza for an afternoon of great help. I realize that I'm getting older, but these kids help me not to feel old.
