you might try holding several layers of papertowel over it and ironing it with a warm iron. the heat should melt the wax and wick it into the paper towels. Not too hot though!

added:  you may still need to spot prime/ paint over the red dye once you get the wax removed

Oh God....Thank YOU.

That is a great suggestion...this is really a nightmare....and my own fault. I bumped the table as I was walking by...I should've NEVER had it there in the first place...

Thankyou...grabbing the iron RIGHT NOW.

DeSolvIt (you can get it at WalMart in the cleaning supplies). Spray it on - let it set for a while and then wipe it off. Smells like orange, but desolves candle wax really well. Took red candle wax out of my carpet after I tried everything. Also gets out chewing gum...

Try the paper towels and iron first and if that doesn't get it all - use the Desolvit fot the rest.

good luck.

WD40

I'm guessing you are in base housing?  Use a Mr. Clean Magic eraser and wd40

It works to take crayon out of clothing that has gone through the dryer, candle wax off wood and walls, and will also take the wax out of clothing if you should happen to wash and dry a chapstick.

Apply the WD40, use a soft cloth to wipe and repeat 2-3x.  Apply again, using something with more scrubbing power that won't take the cheap military paint off the wall, a nylon scrubbie usually works if it's for gentle surfaces, then scrub.  Repeat until the wax and stain are gone then use any degreaser or household cleaner to clean the wd40 off - as a note, laundry detergent works well for this even on walls.

Mr. Clean erasers will also take off candle stains, although I haven't tried it on military quality paint.

I would have just boiled some water and used it on a face cloth.  I agree that you will probably still have to do something to get the red dye off also...

Just to add...

If you are going to paint the spot, might I suggest KILZ as a primer.

I don't live on base....but would you believe I actually HAVE WD40...and the Mr. Clean Eraser...that's weird.  I use it to "oil" things,  I had no idea it was a cleaner.

You would cringe if you saw the wall...uuuhhhh.

Neither did I until one day my kids left their crayons in their pockets and I did laundry...  When my favorite jeans and shirt were covered in red and green crayola I had a fit.  After researching on the net, the crayola site itself gave up the solution of the wd40.  Then when we moved out of that house, the kids had colored the walls in the closet - that was long before magic erasers came out - so I tried the wd40 and it worked like a charm.  Then used it again when a red candle literally exploded - all over my blonde oak coffee table and white walls.  Once again wd40 to the rescue.  Told my mom about it when she washed her golf clothes and forgot a lip stick - chapstick combo in the pocket, worked great for her too.

Mr. Eraser came into play when Ayden wrote all over the walls with a sharpie, and on my blonde oak dining room table.  It took out the sharpie from both the wall and the table, amazing little thing that is.  It is also the only non toxic cleaner I have found that will take calligraphy (light fast indelible permanent ink) of hands - the only other things that work is time and turpentine.

The above suggestions are also great.  And if you ever end up with tar on your hair or hands, use lard, takes it right out.  And use salt to clean up an egg that breaks then you can sweep it up.
