Yep, I love Autumn. Especially up at the farm. Come in from bow hunting with my Son, walking up to the warm cabin and smelling something delicious coming from the stove. (We take Mom with us!)

Cooler weather cooking it is--
Roasted a chicken today, and boiled some baby yukon gold potatoes. Steamed broccolini for a vegetable.
Made Ellen happy by putting together an apple crisp from some freshly-picked Romes from Emmett. Real whipped cream.

Mmm... In my house when it gets cold, we have typical British food - sausages (pork and leek usually) and mashed potatoes with onion gravy, yorkshire puds and steamed veg.

Jimbo - Carolyn -- wanna come up for a meet and greet? I'm in a cooking mood.... This weather is just perfect ... Maybe we can get some of those Dallas and Houston clusterheads up for the weekend and have a really fun time -- it's hunting season and the squirrels are going crazy (as are the hogs). Bow season for the deer and they're running all over the roads, so I guess they're lookng for grub too... Some good backstrap wouldn't be bad right now -- fried taters, biscuits, honey... um um good!!!!
Did I mention, I just love FALL weather....

It's been the coldest day in here so far. Mittens and a hat are needed, winter coat is a must.
Funny, but this fall I'm into soups. Must be the great chicken soup Timo & I made... or the yummy vegetables.

I am going to make chilli on Friday, it should be just about perfect, come Monday.
Being born and mostly raised in the south, I'll NEVER understand the whole ribs and kraut thing. I love ribs and I love sauer kraut, but together no way.

I hate kraut myself. Hubby just canned some homemade kraut & he had to let it sit in a 5 gallon bucket for 6 weeks! 
I couldn't use the laundry/bath room 4 weeks into it. Kept the door shut.

I'm ALL for that, love kraut on hot dogs, brats, polish sausages.....

The ribs and kraut are seasoned with caraway, onion, and a good-sized spoonful of half-sharp Hungarian paprika. After cooking all day, the rib meat falls off the bone and is served literally boneless. It is then scooped - juice and all - onto a bed of homemade potato gnocci (little bite-sized dumplings). My bride, who otherwise HATES sauerkraut, loves this dish and makes it very well.
It doesn't sound all that great, but I told her after we were done last night that what I just ate was some of the finest food I have ever had - without exception. And I meant it sincerely.
The key is the cooking time - 5-6 hours.

Crock pot is my favorite thing in the fall/winter. I can put a frozen roast in before going to work and when I get home dinner is ready.
This morning I put frozen chicken brests in and dumped a botten or Spagu sauce over it. Tonight, Chicken Parmesain. YUM
This is what I get for being german and marrying an italian. I cool him chicken parm and I dont get my kraut.

We had spare ribs and sauer kraut all the time when I was a kid. I didn't think it was a German thing, I just thought it was because we were poor
