Benetar & Heart on A&E

If you like music, you need to watch A&E's "Breakfast with the arts" I saw a Pat Benetar interview as well as Ann & Nancy Wilson from Heart. Wasn't a huge Benetar fan, but after watching I was impressed. The guitar player is her husband and they have written & performed together for over 20 years. Unlike many rock stars, they have a balanced family life. Kids & whatnot. Ann & Nancy Wilson from Heart are still performing together. They have a new album coming out in 08. They did "Barracuda", "Crazy on you" as well as a John Lennon cover & a Led Zeppelin cover. They were great and Ann could still sing the high notes very well. I was surprised to see Nancy play the harmonica. She was good. The diatonic harmonica gets little respect. I have a set of 6 standard key diatonics. I'll tell ya what....they are a helluva lot harder to play than people think. 10 hole diatonics are missing notes, so you have to "bend" the reeds with a special technique to get close to filling in the gaps. Anyways, I have seen: Paul Simon, UB-40, Don Mclean, and a bunch of other really talented people on Breakfast with the arts. If you like music, you might want to check it out Sunday mornings. Cheers, Dave

I seen Heart at Napervilles Rib Fest this summer. I have to say Ann still brings it, man can she sing. But isn't she starting to look like Rosann Barr? Dave

Saw an interview with Ann a while ago. Seems she went thru some tough times but it is good to see her playing again. She sure has one amazing set of pipes.

| Yeah, she isnt all skinny anymore, but it don't matter. She's still the talent she was before. I will make a "sort of" correction. The show is called "private sessions" Breakfast with the arts is aired before. Both good shows anyway. The Goo Goo Dolls are on right now. I am not to familiar with them, but the drummer has a kickass Tama Exotics drum kit. The Tama Exotics are made out of Bubinga wood. Slightly thicker than my all Maple kit, they have a slightly denser tone. They cost a little more because they have an "abalone" inlay. I prefer the maple Starclassics myself. Either way, Tamas have a very distinctive tone. My bass drum is a "cannon" The toms sound so good, you need absolutely NO dampening at all. Unless of course the stuff you play requires a flatter or less sustain type of sound. Next week will be for the country fans. Toby Keith will be on Private sessions. Will be interesting for the country fans here to watch. Dave

| Yeah, I'd feel pretty stupid with my funky hair do and silly looking clothes I probably wore. I dont feel too bad about it tho. Just think how those younger than I feel about wearing 80's clothes Would look damn silly with big hair & parachute pants. We wont even talk about my red bell bottoms and hideous paisley shirt I once had....eeek. yikes...look like a Jimi Hendrix wannabe

| Well, you probably can (except hair length). That's a compliment, by the way.

I was really impressed with Pat Benetar. They have a normal family. Didn't have a bunch of drama, drug use around the kids etc. Just a normal family who did rock for a living and never lost sight of what keeps things in balance. A lot of times people who become rock stars get so involved in the huge dollars and everyone waiting on them hand & foot that they lose sight of reality. Overdose, wreck cars while drunk and injure people, make ridiculous demands, suicide, toss it all away with foolish decisions. It was kool to see a band that has remained balanced & moving forward in a positive way. Dave

Well, I miss my fringed suede vest, fringed and patched bell bottoms that were so long that we wore out the hems, halter tops, etc. Gee, did we look ridiculous or what? Thanks for the compliment, Bill but I have pics that would prove you wrong.
