Tips to get rid of Bronchitis? Anyone? pls...

ok 4 weeks ago this started. Went to the doctor 3 weeks ago, but my doc was out and all I could see what the PA. She is a nice lady, but I dont think she is the sharpest rock in the pile. She said I had Ashmatic bronchitis. Gave me a pulmacort inhailer to use 1 puff 2x a day. and to use my ahbuterol inhailer not just for attacks ( like I have my entire life) but witht he pulmarot. This last saturday, it knocked me on my ass. I could not keep water down, and on top of it i got hit with HA that day as well. (It does not happen often, but when a Cluster breaks thru, I know that I am in for a nasty ass b*tch of a fight cause nothing will break them until the beast decides that I can feel human again, about 2 x a month) My kids are great, they left me alone for the most part and got me anything I needed. I slept between CH hits and beat my head against the wall during them. So I go back and see my doc Tuesday. He tells me that I have full blown bronchitis, puts me on Levaquin, bumps up the pulmarot to 2 puffs 2x a day and my inhailer 4 x a day min. Told me that if my lungs dont clear up in 2 weeks then I need a chest xray to make sure that it is not turning into pneumonia. I cant take time off work ( I am finally working and trying hard to get the job perm as it is a temp job now, at the U of O). So what I need to know is there anything OTC or old wives remidies that might help clear this shit up. I thought about boiling a big pot of water and add spearment oil to it and put a towel over my head and just breath in the fumes. I know that helps clear out lungs and it great on the complextion But I have not done that since I last had pneumonia in Reno 12 yrs ago and I dont know if it will trigger a headache or not. Any help would be great.

All I can say is to go to Walmart, go to the paint section, and buy a pack of those white thingys that cover your mouth and nose. Painters use them. My hubby uses them when he mows, helps keep the dust out of his lungs.Good luck, Leah.

Make yourself a hot cup of Chamomille or mint tea, add lemon juice and honey and drink as many times as you want, it helps loosen up the flems. Ther is also a very good OTC syrup name Broncolin in any spanish market (meat market has them) , oh! I remember I saw it also in Walgreens. It is a honey syrup with herbs and it is very good. Make a radish and red onion salad, add some lemon juice and olive oil and a little salt. It has lots of natural antibiotics . The Vicks waterless vaporizer is great you just connect it close to your bed and breath!!! Hope these little tips help!! be well Rosy.

Hey Tia, You can go to the drugstore, Walgreens, to the pharmacy. There's a OTC med called Mucinex. Here in Illinois, I have to sign for it, and you have to pay for it at the pharmacy, due to the new laws regarding the sale of psuedoephedrine (Thank you meth labs.) I'm not sure of the law in Oregon, but Mucinex will break up the crap in your lungs, while drying out your sinuses, and also controlling the resulting cough. It's mainly 2 ingredients, but it works real well. I also like to drink hot lemon tea with honey. And if I get the aches and pains, I'll throw in shot of bourbon. The tea is very soothing. Good Luck, and try to get as much rest as you can.

My dad had a bottle of Rock and Rye on his headboard and anytime either my sister of I got sick and coughed at night he would come and and make us take a drink. My mom says that there where times she woke up to find both of us hiding under our covers stuffing apillow in our mouthes so that dad would not hear us cough. Now I cant even smell it without being sick. I've seen the Musinex, I'll have to pick some up. Figure any type of syrup as to be better then red death (myquil) and that does not help at all. Thanks for the pointers. Think I'll head to the store after work.

Get the F outta here! We should get together soon. Is that the one in Eugene or the one in Corvallis? (I always get them mixed up) I get to Eugene about twice a month and go to Corvallis about once a month. I would be honored if I could buy you coffee sometime. btw, i am in Portland if you ever get up this way.

hehe I would love it. We are in Eugene. I'll pm you my number. We have been here since the end of January. Finding a job has been a pain inthe ass, but I think it will work out. We have not been to Portland yet. Shaun (hubby) keeps telling me we will get up there. If I had the extra money (or when I get the extra money) I'm going to get him a ticket to a Seattle game, He is a die hard fan, even when we first got together and they sucked. It will probably be next season thou.

Laying down always brings out the worst in bronchitis. What I have found that will allow me to sleep is this: Sleep sitting up. Either in a recliner or stack a bunch of pillows under your head or a couple of blankets folded under a pillow. You get the idea. You wont cough as much which will allow you to sleep.

Got Mucenix (or however it is spelled) last night. Could not find any of the cough syrup you mentioned, Rosy. But I got some Robotusin. Slept a little better, but still just feel worn out. Anyway, this weekend hubby is going hunting so it is just me and the kids. Think we will pick up some movies and curl up on the couch and have a relazing weekend.
