Can anyone give me info or direct me to resources for setting up homeschooling for a high school student? Circumstances have arisen that will require my eldest to be removed from his high school and I know nothing about home schooling at all, and home schooling for a student that is an international baccalaureate and high ability learner student is daunting to the n'th measure. Any info anyone can give me would be much appreciated. Cat

Every state has different requirements, Cat. First go to the Public Ed Dept's website and find out how to start. Every school district is required by law to provide services that you are unable to. Generally this applies to OT, Speech therapy, etc. It may apply to enriched classes. There are a number of online resources, as well as curriculum sets you can buy. It's a bit harder with a high schooler, I think. Some districts won't use homeschooling for graduation credits, should the student go back to school. Do your homework, so it works for all of you. hugs, nani

Brewcrew & Mosaicwench's son Roy is attending a virtual high school. Not the same, but maybe something that would work really well for you. I know they left on vacation early this morning, so I doubt they'll see this - figure I'd let you know they'd be a fantastic resource for you! Lizzie ps - check your PMs

Hi Cat, I'm having Linda help me with this one. She is the one who has been homeschooling ours for the last 15 yrs. Here are a couple of numbers for you to look into, and then I'll pm our phone number if you want to give her a call during the evening. BJU Press is the source we use for our curriculum, (Satelite teaching is available He can be involved in live interactive classes to a limited extent.)1-800-845-5731. You will find some very helpful people there who can guide you and answer your questions. I know there are other excellent sources available, but these are the folks who have been working with us for all these years. Home School Legal Defense Association is an excellent resource for any legal questions you may have as far as state requirements, etc. 1-540-338-5600 You can google for their website as well. I don't have the site addy right at hand right now. You may discuss your current situation with them as well. They may be able to advise you as to what steps you need to make the transition as smooth as possible. Hope this helps. I know this can be a daunting undertaking, but it can also be a very rewarding experience for both of you. Jerry & Linda
