Stupid Expired Question

Just how long is Imitrex good after expiration? I am out of Frova and Zomig... and my doc didn't even have samples yesterday. So today I did the whole 'stash search' and only found 3 vials, one expired march of 2005. I have a few nasals expired july 2006. This is all I have to work with atm, and just wondering how long does this shit actually stay good? I thought I was going out of cycle, but the rollercoaster of clusterfuck has sped up. Peace, Carl

A Doctor told me once that the only bad effect that a expired med can do to you is not working at all...and some meds can stay active long after the expiration date. Good Luck , hope they still work Rosy.

Carl, hate to say it but, only one way to find out for yourself. Perhaps depends on the temperature range they've been kept in. I've recently used nasal trex expired Oct. 2006. It may be though that the temp range has not been maintained, I turn the air off while at work and have come home to 82ish or so. In old age it could be they are affected more easily. Knocking it down to a K4 or 5 was no problem in the usual time but there was a persistent lag with the last N/S box with compete aborting. That may not be due to its resiliency length but possibly other neglecting factors with weather. I'd imagine samples from a doctor's office would not be affected by out of range temperature fluctuations, previously I've used doctor samples over expired over two years old successfully. Let us know please, k Carl?

Ahhhhhhhh. The oldest dose worked. I guess there really IS only one way to find out, either choose a good thrashing or try to stop it. Peace, Carl

Since Carl asked, it made me think of a question for y'all. And that is: do you keep Imitrex refrigerated like other medicines Insulin etc? I have just kept mine in the cabinet in a dry cool place. Thanks in advance. Regards, Dave

| Yes Dave for me, full supply in a dark cooler-than-room-temp closet but oldest supply, the next to be used, in dresser drawer in bedroom, a few in nightstand drawer, but many times these are not used for lengths of time. Only when oxygen aborting persists all night and I've had enough of constant waking from sleep. Or the one's brought to work daily and the one's constantly with me but not used for quite awhile sometimes, which may affect these oldest dated by temps in the hot summers and cold winters of MI. Otherwise the rest are safe and always been effective. I use oxygen most exclusively these days at home.

I've used past dated injectables and they were fine. Heat and sunlight would be the worst offenders. Ray

| Thanks Kevin. Lately I haven't even needed the Imitrex. Have been giving it to my fellow clusterheads. I'm gonna stock up on it just in case my condition changes or my friends cant get the Doc. to prescribe them more. So far, like you, I use the 02 a lot. Cheers, Dave

| I've recently found this to be a factor, otherwise I think the date is only there to move product faster by marketing. Properly maintained supplies have seemed no problem past an also personally used two year expiration, evidence points to beyond too. Just take care.

| Well, the Trex hasn't killed me, but having to use it is a real bummer - since now I am getting hit left and right. I do know that with Verapamil, if you have the greenish-blue ovalish tabs that, if you see cracks down the side of the pill it isn't any good and should be thrown out.
