What happened to OUCH????

Another thread is about to get into a name calling, free-for all, so I thought I'd start a new thread, so everyone can get their "opinions" out (again) and get it over with (again). As one who actually KNEW lcbob (for those on the BOD today - he was the guy who actually thought up the concept of OUCH), and as one who was in on the beginnings of OUCH, I feel I can say what I darn well please and the devil take the hindmost. What happened to OUCH was that politics got involved as well as personalities. That'll mess up anything. Everyone KNEW best and things got argued to death and not much got done and it was always this one's or that one's fault. If someone actually did something and got credit for it someone else got jealous and the *&&^ would hit the fan. So many people have had such good ideas, but they've gone by the wayside because they were "their" ideas and someone else didn't have them. Then we came to the point that if you "told" your idea it got picked apart to the point that you just didn't want to share it, so things got secretative and that didn't suit anyone either. Right now, I don't even know who's running the organization or have a lot of interest in it anymore. And that's a shame cause no one had more enthusiasm about OUCH than I did at one time (or put as much time and energy into it - not to mention a lot of money). I hear that OUCH is doing great things, but I don't hear much about WHAT it's doing - just bits and pieces. I don't know how much money it has (although I've asked for a financial - even sent money for copies of it) but have not received one (although this is supposed to be public information), so I don't feel like donating to it anymore when I don't know where the money is being spent (and I'm not putting anyone down - I'm sure it's going for something good - I just don't know where). I guess what I'm trying to say is that OUCH was originally set up as a MEMBER organization and today members just don't know what's going on and don't have any say in anything. And that's my dollar's worth (inflation ya know). Hugs BD

I never, Never get involved in these discussions about OUCH because everytime something is posted about it, there appears to be some that are just waiting to get their digs in. I have ALWAYS supported the people who made up the board. My thoughts are the same as Guissepe(wait, I know I spelled that wrong). Those that volunteer, with no pay, have my undying appreciation. I DO know whats going on because I sit in on the Board Meeting in Virginia this past summer and I am just a member. I also know how much money they have and I know it's not a lot. But what I did observe is that there may have been political posturing in the past (and I know that there were Barb) geez we both seen it, but what I observed were those that came into the room took their egos and threw them in the corner. They had one thought and it was for OUCH. I came away impressed with the knowledge of all those present and their motives. They certainly appeared to have nothing to hide from me. Heck, I even took their picture. OUCH BOD. Keep your head up. Keep plugging at the projects that you are so close to finally seeing the reward. You and any who come after you, will always have my support. Snip away.

I feel that there is no complaint about the people who are in office, but that there is little information about what is in progess. When Barbara and I were on the BOD, everything was public information. Whether right or wrong, people knew just what was going on. Our only problem was that we allowed people to influence or criticize what we were doing. We should have made our decisions, made them known and followed through. Admittedilly, the input was overwhelming and critical. We were not as strong a board as we should have been.......but we were totally open to our members and allowed all input...pro or con. It would be nice if we knew now what was being done, financial reports made available as stipulate in the by-laws and progress reports as they happen without taking away the powers of our elected officials.

The "problem" today with O.U.C.H. is the same as it has been in the past...some people using their time/efforts belittling, nitpicking, & disparaging those that try to make a difference in the organization rather than pitching in to help. You don't like the way things are going with O.U.C.H.? It's time to put up or shut up. Volunteer. Isn't it ironic some of those previous O.U.C.H. BoD members &/or officers are now [& have in the past] questioning everything O.U.C.H. is or is not doing to their standards when they didn't have the character or personal integrity to complete the term they signed up for. Several of the quitters never did the work required while in office &/or were there for self-serving reasons. If more people would complete a term they signed up for instead of being a bunch of quitters...maybe, just maybe the organization would have run [& will run] much smoother. Volunteer & at least stay the course. At least a few have had the integrity to do that. *Understandably, a few have had to leave O.U.C.H. for situations beyond their control...but at least they gave their all [or tried to] while in office. Those few are not the one's to whom I am referring. To those that have served a complete term & are serving now in the O.U.C.H organization...I say thank you. Not everyone is a naysayer as some have shown themselves to be around here. Keep up the good work O.U.C.H. crew.

| Steve, if I was new here today and read this as your first statement on the subject, it would seem you are airing a gripe about the OUCH of "today" having people within the organization "using their time/efforts belittling, nitpicking, & disparaging those that try to make a difference in the organization rather than pitching in to help." But because they may complete their term in this manner, you go on to refer to as "integrity". You express differently otherwise. However, if I was new today without knowing anything previous about OUCH, I might be confused as to the direction of the conjecture. If you are talking about the nature of aired OUCH opinions, your's has been one also, remarking of these volunteers, "quitters" from within, "never did the work" and "self-serving" while a part of OUCH. I wouldn't know about any of that but your opinion, as like others, all find themselves in the mix here. It seems well that Batch and Wildhaus have taken initiative here for communication from within.

| Steve, I also wonder how you came about this information, as the business boards at OUCH are accessible only by the BoD. Also, the meetings are private too. You say several of the quitters never did the work required, or were there for self serving reasons. Who are the quitters? Who never did the required work? Who was there for self serving reasons? How did you come by this info? I'm interested to know. As nani posted: Quote:Rumor? Gossip? Insider info? |
| Or maybe pillow talk? Let me know, please. I'd like to know how any private info from OUCH got to you. Or who twisted the words to say these things you are apparently quoting. Please, enlighten us.

I tired a few times over the years here to be a part of OUCH. To take the time and try to volunteer, and got no response to inquires, so without having the time to hound OUCH to be a part of it, I sat back and figured I was not needed in the workings of it. I know that I do not have the time to attempt to be a part fo the BoD, so I am not dumb enough to put my hat in. Over the years I do spend the time to try and read the OUCH boards, but get little info from them and end up back here beacuse I feel more at home here. Now back to the posts above.... My only thought is, HERE WE GO AGAIN. From a personal standpoint. The problem with OUCH, is nto the organization. The issue is that the very nature fo the beast (pun intended) is that Ch'ers end up as very strong personalities. If we were not, then we would lose the fight against the same beast. So as such, it does not matter what is done in the boards, how well they are doing, how bad they are doing. Each and ever person sees it as a different way then they would do it. And problems start. Even if every memeber of the current BOD is playing nice and they did everything that was required per the by-laws there will be some that find exception to thier work. I will not open this thread again, which is sad because a thread about OUCH here should not be a bitch fest, It should be a simple info summary so that the people who dont have the time to delve thru the OUCH boards can feel a part of it, and if something really triggers with them, then they can go tot he OUCH boards and get more info. I wish everyone who works as a part of OUCh the best. Because of your work, I have learned info that I would have had difficulty finding on my own.

I think OUCH is a great organization, trying to make a difference in our lives by increasing the knowledge and awareness of CH, by trying to be in forefront of educating our medical community as to what CH is and how to treat it, and by being a foundation where we can go for help, and learn about our affliction. I too, submitted my volunteer application, and did not receive a response. I believe this is because, at the time, I was not needed, however, a polite "thanks but no thanks" would have been nice. I have not been disappointed with the information I have received through 0UCH, but can agree that a little more information would also be nice. I think OUCH has kept us fairly well informed through the monthly newsletters, and at the annual conventions. I was not able to attend Richmond, so did not hear any financial information, or successes/failures of grants, research, etc. That is my problem. I wasn't there. But, many of us cannot attend the convention, so I would like to see the newsletter include financial info, where we stand on grants, etc, each month. I also think that CH.com is not the place to air our grievances against OUCH. Not everyone on the CH.com board is a member of OUCH. If you want to ask a question, air a grievance, make a comment to OUCH, there is a way to do this on the OUCH website. This is not the place. I bless the people who have volunteered their creativity, their knowledge, their expertise, and most importantly, their time to the OUCH BOD and committees. Thank you for your good work. Sandy

Hi Folks, Your friendly O.U.C.H. US Spokesperson a.k.a. "Batch" and also Pete Batcheller here. As I'm still the new guy on the block, I don't know what happened to the offers to volunteer in question, but as all O.U.C.H. Officers and BoD members are lifetime members of the recruiting committee and no offer to volunteer should ever be ignored.... PLEASE SEND YOUR OFFERS TO VOLUNTEER IN SUPPORT OF O.U.C.H. TO ME AT THE FOLLOWING LINK: o2help@ouch-us.org WITH A CC TO MY HOME EMAIL ADDRESS AT: pete.batcheller@verizon.net AND I WILL PERSONALLY MAKE SURE YOU RECEIVE A RECEIPT RESPONSE, AND THAT YOUR OFFER WILL BE SHARED BY ALL O.U.C.H. OFFICERS AND MEMBERS OF THE BOD. With that important public announcement out of the way, if any of you have volunteered to help O.U.C.H. and did not received a reply, please send me a copy of the email or link to the post that you used to make your offer to volunteer. If we've a broken or malfunctioning link in communication that causes important offers like this to become lost, it needs to be fixed tut suite. On the need for O.U.C.H. to be more transparent and forthcoming with more frequent announcements about it's doings... not to worry, the stack of announcements in my incoming queue is growing fearsome, and I suspect there could come a time when one or more will say "enough" but somehow I doubt that will happen... One last observation on something I learned long ago that applies to a few posts on this tread and elsewhere on the boards... Never wrestle with a pig... you both get dirty and the pig likes it... Now mind you, I'm not accusing any of us of being a pig (well... I do eat and drink too much) and a healthy debate on any number of topics can be very stimulating and at times even productive. However, when the barbs start hitting individuals and not the ideas under debate... chaos theory and the law of unintended consequence come into play. At that point, all the fun and excitement is lost and the whole thing becomes a turn-off and slippery slope. If saying this makes me out to be a Bull-Goose Loony, and I don't think I am (save for making comments about socialist liberal politics and its politicians - I know I'm clearly guilty here), I'll offer my closing thoughts... I've been shit at, shot at, and hit by folks with far more skill and determination to take me down than anything I've seen here on the boards. So if any of you perceive I've crossed over the line and offended you... please let me know... and if you feel so inclined, take your best shot. After all, I am your friendly O.U.C.H. US spokesperson and I keep my Klingon Deflector fully charged and the "good idea" filter fully open... In the mean time, lets all lighten up and do the things we do best as cluster headache sufferers and supporters... and that is love and care for each other while joined in a common battle against the beast... after all, no matter who or what we are, none of us are getting out of here alive... So lets enjoy each other for what we are and all the wonderful PF time we can share with one another. Take Care, V/R, Batch a.k.a. your friendly O.U.C.H. US O2 Pusher

What we need is someone who won't fall victim to the nit pickers and take control... just my two cents... I wanted to volunteer one year and that year they only wanted people with CH to volunteer... I lost interest when I watched all the fighting on OUCH... and never understood any of it. I don't even know what is going on there now and can't decipher any of it anyway. Not for your every day reader. I don't even go there anymore. it seems like a great idea... just cant get anyone to agree on any thing ... ree

Pete.....great commentary, diction, and well thought out response. I am glad you are a part of OUCH. Good luck with the wrestling of the pigs. They love the dirt and the slinging of mud. So folks who submitted resumes in years past and have a new inkling to pick the oar back up, it appears all is ready and a response will be given. Forget the past, try again. Unfortunately (as most of you already know), I'm far from thick-skinned, embarrassing as it is to admit. (but it's not in the least embarrassing for me to be thin-skinned - it's part of what makes me a compassionate, loving person). just my 2cents.... Lizzie
