Topic: Trespassers ! (Read 540 times) |

I caught 2 individuals leering in my windows this morning at 3:30 am, they were trying to gain entry. I know both of these people. Things could've turned out very badly (for them), but I let them leave unharmed, but I'm sure frightened.
If this happens again, it might turn ugly. I've already tracked their 'residence' down and I'm having the ISP serve a 'no trespass' order.
Wonder how much 'force' I can legally use to prevent, or protect, my home and personal property.
I do feel that they might come back ... and I'm prepared for such an event. I'm not so sure that they realize how far they can 'push me'. I will NOT let them come into my home or take my things from my vehicles or property.
Any thoughts ? I know a few of you are police or retired police ... what say you ??

So you know these people? Do you know why they would be snooping around your house?
I think you can report the incidence to the police and the next time they turn up you call 911 straight away. I dont think you should physically face them though, they could be dangerous people and we dont want to see you hurt !
Please take care of yourself and I hope your head is getting better.

Legally, it depends on the state laws.
I live in the country and if threatened I'd shoot em and sort the legal issues out later.

I would report them to police and let them know what is going on. That way if they break in while you are not home you have it on record as to who has been nosing around your stuff.

Not a bad idea what Karla said - get it on record with their names and addresses.
But like Mid - I live in the country - we shoot and then call the Sherrif and he cleans up the mess.
Check your state and local laws... and if you shoot them - put a pipe or something in their hand before you call the police -- that way you FELT threatened. (Like you don't already).

Report it to police now....... If something more occurs it will be clear that you didn't do enough .. I'd ask the PD to visit them , so these trespassers are aware the PD will look to them immediately if anything happens.... Anyway maybe other things have happened the PD might want to talk to them about.... phil h

This morning I was told by CPD that I had to have their address so they could serve a 'no trepass' order ? I got their address. After reading the above comments, I did call the CPD back with the info they requested. Now they say they won't serve any order nor will they come to my house and take a report. The officer said it was too late, that I should've done it right away ???? WTF ?? ( I did call right after they left). The officer said since I've already told the perps to stay away, call them back if they come back and they'll come and get them.
Too late to make a report ???  That's BS !!

It is never late to make a report, go to the Police Department and place the report. They HAVE to write down the report and then give you a file number. The Police Officer who talked to you was just giving crap
...I have placed so many reports since I live here...people picking in my trucks and people picking in my neighboors backyard! not to mention they have broken into my truck and broken my Van's back window 6 times!!!...and there is also eggs in my trucks and paintballs....Police already know me and my husband by first name

Post your own No Trespassing signs, in some states that's enough to have it considered 'posted and served'.
Keep a log of everything you've done and the times you've called the police.
When they return, and you would, I imagine, feel that much MORE threatened because the police don't want to get involved....use necessary force.

I may be in the minority, but I don't think you should shoot anybody right now.
File the reports, you know the perps, should work out well for you without killing people.

I just put up two video cams on my property. I can watch them on my computer. Record when I leave. We had some things taken from our shed last week.
At least I will find out who it is with the cam.

My opinion or voice of reason is this:
First of all, I know no ones house that is better armed than my humble abode. Anything from Thompson sub gun to shotguns, plenty of combat handgun practice and plenty of ammo. Not bragging, just trying to give you an idea where I am coming from. Truth is tho, it isn't always as easy as blast em then ask questions. In my chicken shit state, if the person outside isn't putting you in actual danger of great bodily harm or death, you cant even shoot em. Even if they manage to get in, you can only blast them if it is "reasonable" to believe you are in danger. What does that really mean? Well, who really knows what can happen in court.
My "personal" opinion....if anyone sneaks around my house, I shouldn't need johnny law to give me permission to put a .223 in their eye ball. Why should I?
Worrying about some criminals rights is exactly what the above paragraph does (thanks to candayass lawmakers)...and damn sure he wont be worrying about yours & your families rights !!!
There is nothing more frustrating than having to obey the law when your adversary doesn't. I think I am pretty clear to say that if it happens to me, the attacker WILL have a weapon on him  See what I'm sayin' ?
Point is, no one can tell you exactly what to do. It is up to you to know your laws, involve The Police and cover your ass legally.
It's quite obvious to me that everyone here feels the way I do about criminals and how to deal with them.
I am just saying to be careful and cover your own ass legally. If you think about what you are doing, you can get results with less hassle and the criminal can have a very, very bad day

To clear this up for you:
The first phone call was to the Clarksville Police Department who said that since the perps live 30 miles away in another county (Ramsey, IN) ... I would have to get the address and they (CPD) would have the ISP go serve the no trespass order. The second phone call was also to the CPD, who then stated they would have no such order served and they wouldn't come out for a report either. They just want me to call if I catch the perps outside looking into my windows, stealing, or trying to get in.
So, I have to wait until something happens before they'll do anything
Hope that clears it up for ya
I don't plan on shooting anybody (ever) , but the SKS and 9mm's are locked and loaded for awhile to come !

Hear about the guy in Chicago who electrified his store ceiling? Kept getting burgled...guy broke in & got smoked. They prosecuted him for booby trap.
My friend has 2 Boxers in the house. Some dirtbag broke in and the dogs bit him several times. He was arrested for burglary, but sued my friend's insurance company...and won !!!
Thats why I urge caution. To me? I couldn't care less if some crack head gets jolted or eaten by dogs. It's natural selection as far as I am concerned.
I heard one just lately. A guy who was fired for not showing up to work or whatever, decided to come back and steal all the tools.
The genius cut a hole in the roof (30 ft. up) and just like a cartoon, he cut the hole around himself and plummeted to the concrete. He sued and won compensation.
Endless amount of these things happen and people are compensated for committing a stupid criminal act.
It is idiotic.
