OOHH, poor little thing! http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/20723212/?GT1=10357 I have a quaker parrot, his name is Chiquillo and he sings love songs in spanish and he can talk quite good and always says "night, night" for good night and "Buenos dias" in the morning... I think when he dies I will be heartbroken . His life spam is about 30 years, hopefully he spends everyone of them with us.

| I've heard Quakers are nice to have around--very affectionate and agreeable. Ellen's friend Emma has one. On the other hand, my brother and his wife had an African Gray parrot. They gave it up after about 10 years--a small interlude in the monster's 50 year lifespan. It stripped all the paint and the paper on the sheetrock from the wall of the room it was living in. Destroyed any furniture it could reach. Pooped everywhere, and flung feathers and indescribable bird-stuff all over, in seeming spite. It bit. It HATED my brother, with an unrelenting and bitter hatred. The feeling was mutual. They say that you don't own a parrot--you marry it. If that is true, theirs was a marriage incubated in hell. The only thing worse would have been a macaw, or the toucan that my friend Greg had briefly. Your toucan is a really foul bird. Best wishes, George

Ah! The foreigners put on such airs Wearing the tangerine suits And their harlequin eyes. The pain they inspire Draws in harmonica melodies And the feathers of birds Which flame up at their touch. It all comes to light in the sheer Debonair. (Ellen)

| Shhhh, George, children may be around. Toucans bring us colorful crunchie flavors. What next, the Easter bunny ruined your garden. Or maybe tell them all about the circus. Quote:toucan is a really foul bird |
| But you're probably right.

We had a parrot named Maverick, he hated Dave and pooped on his pictures and his bureau all the time... Come to find out Dave used to bang on his cage when he was noisy and Dave was trying to sleep... The only word that Maverick could say was MOM... and he sounded like Seans voice... it was really annoying. The rest was trumpeting that annoyed our neighbors... He was vicious and always bit the toes off our little parakeets. We had him about 5 years and then gave him away when Scott went into the service... I'm sure he is still horassing someone somewhere they do live a long time... also... Brandeis is in my home town I drivethrough it all the time... ree

| HEY!!! Watch those comments! My Nickie (my Blue and Gold Macaw) reads this site all the time. You might hurt his feelings! He CAN be mean, when he is in a foul mood, but he is like all toddlers, he is usually very sweet. He loves sitting on my shoulder, riding in the car with me, and sampling all my food and drinks, just to make sure that it is edible for me to eat. He is a bit leary of strangers, though, but when Tony was here, he DID let Tony pick him up, and he did NOT rip Tony to shreds. Yes, he DID rip wall paper off the walls, that he could reach from in his cage. BUT, I have never had him destroy anything, furniture or otherwise, while he was out of his cage. He just wants to be in the same room as I am in. He prefers to be on me, but he settles for just being in the same room. Not all macaws are mean and nasty, but you do have to respect that beak of theirs! Know when they are in a foul mood (rare) and be respectful, yet forceful with them. When I was doing my research on birds, before getting him, they said that having a Blue and Gold Macaw, is just like having a toddler, for the rest of your life. Their life expectancy is 80 to 100 years. And yes, he IS just like a toddler! Chuck

Beautiful Bird Chuckie!!... mine is not so colorful but He is a very good talker and he is the only "being" that talks to me in spanish in this house, other that the TV of course... He begs for food when we are at the table, he says "Yummy!" and if you don't put attention he comes and starts slamming the dish until you hear him and if his water bottle is empty he throws it into the floor...he make sure he gets fed ...no, he does not say "bad words"

We had a Quaker stay with us for about 6 months. Her name was Suzzy. She belonged to my son's girlfriend and we boarded Suzzy while she was away at school. I loved the bird. She loved me. The only problem was that she hated everyone else in the house. She'd bite anyone that came near her but she'd coo and duck her head to be patted whenever I went near her. She's nibble on my ear and eat food out of my hand. I could even get her to do some simple tricks. My kids were terrified of her. So it didn't last. Her most endearing trait was that she learned to mimick my wife's laugh. Whenever Andrea would laugh Suzzy was laughing with her... some would say at her though certainly not me. The last I heard she is still laughing my wife's laugh. -Dennis-
