My sons and daughters schools are all holding a two minute silence at 2pm tomorrow GMT. That was the time of the first news program it appeared on here and the point at which I first saw it.
It's a day of terrible memories for all of us. I can honestly say it was one of the darkest days I have ever lived through and I was in bomb scares glaore from the IRA as a kid growing up in London. I was in Harrods when it was bombed and I was in London with my children on 21st July and caught up heavily right where two of the bombs went off. I've lived with terrorism first hand. I will never bend.
I'm flying tomorrow to Charlotte then La Guardia and finally Syracuse. I shall be sticking two fingers up at Al Quaeda all the way. I'm glad I have the chance to show they will NEVER make any day a day we dread - only one we remember and have justice for.

I have been thinking about that day a lot. It was a Tuesday, like tomorrow, and I recall clearly what I was doing and how I found out about and my reaction... I still recall it lively. I don't think that I will forget it, either. Some things and events just are like that.

George Bush Jr still hasn't done much of ANYTHING. We sent 35k troops in to topple the Taliban and find Osama. We sent 150k troops in to help out the Iraqis.
Can you say P R I O R I T I E S ? Bush Jr puts Iraqis before Americans, that's fukkin shameful for the AMERICAN President.

The day before the attack, I flew to New York and had an interview in one of the Trade Center buildings. Ironically, it was at an Israeli-owned security company. After the interview, I flew to Boston where we were finally opening our new Jazz bar (Limbo). Our opening night was supposed to be Tues, 9/11. we had sent out 200 invites to press and food critics, and we had 400 confirmed responses. There was a great buzz about the whole thing... My good friend Daniel Lewin (CEO of Akamai) told me he was flying to LA the next day and was going to miss the opening... he wished us good luck. That was the last time I spoke to him.
I woke up on 9/11 in my friends house in Back Bay. He has no TV or radio (by choice). My cell phone was off. As soon as I turned it on, I saw that I had 8 new voice mail messages, but even before I could dial out to get them, I had an incoming call. That's when the world changed for me. Screw the restaurant. Screw the new job. We cancelled the opening festivities (of course). I was smart enough immediately go get a rental car (the last one at Hertz in downtown Boston) and 3 of us started driving across the country. I dropped my friends off in Boulder, Colorado, and drove on to San Francisco. It was along the way that I found out about Danny being in that first plane that crashed into the towers, leaving behind two toddlers. Life is strange... Danny had just made a Billion (with a B) dollars taking Akamai public, and now he was gone. Ouch.
I'll never forget that drive from Boston to San Francisco. Nothing (I mean NADA) was flying in the sky. You never realize how much you come to expect seeing moving objects in the night sky. It was erie. So many people were on the road that there were no hotel rooms available anywhere... we just took turns driving.
We bought a worm from a vending machine in Illinois. Never done that before... saw it and had to buy it just to be able to say we did that. Fritz suffered a horrible fate on the dashboard... don't ask. It smelled bad.
I think many of us will have that day etched in permanent memory. Thank God for that. Never forget.

I saw some people making sand castles depicting the attack...smiling away. People cheering the deaths.
Heres what slays me: Some innocent woman sitting at her desk at work deserves to be smashed to death cause you don't like her Govt. or lifestyle or religion or whatever !!!!

There are a lot of things that other Govts. as well as ours do that I don't like, but there is absolutely no excuse to wipe out innocent people....then rejoice about it.
It takes a sick person to think this way. Further, justifying it by saying those innocent people deserved it because they are citizens of the country you don't like......that is like beating up your neighbor Bob because you don't like the company he works for.
Maybe a bad example, but I find that type of thinking....well....insane.

First of all, your blindness must have skewed your reading ability. I did not blame anyone for 9/11. I do blame Bush Jr for taking virtually no action since 9/11 to avenge the deaths of my fellow countrymen.
Who do you think we should blame for focusing more resources on Iraq rather than the war on terror and finding Osama Bin Laden? In September, 2001 Bush Jr said he was gonna do a lot, that was about the last we heard of the war on terror, except for bumper stickers.
Even AFTER 9/11, America has spent more lives and resources fighting for Iraqis than we have spent fighting for Americans.
Sure, maybe on September 10th, 2001 I would have entertained the idea of using our military to help out people across the world, but then September 11th happened. The world changed.
I am an American. That's MY fucking military. In times of need, I would like to use MY military before we loan it out to build other countries.
So, who do YOU think we should blame for the USA focusing more lives and resources on Iraqis than we have on Americans in the last 6 years?

There have been numerous terrorist efforts that were thwarted--alot of these bastards were arrested in some of our backyards, and the plans that they had were worse than 9/11.....Seems to me someone has done something right--and hopefully it will continue where we can discuss what might have happened, not what did happen.

Bush had nothing to do with it. He's just incompetent and more dangerous to us than them.
The "fight them over there so we don't have to fight them here" silly excuse is used by the same bunch that missed the target by about three countries. We need to knock off firing people because our executive branch doesn't like being told what they don't want to hear. That's what medieval monarchs did. Come to think of it, it applies to the current bunch we have to put up with.
That said, we have to remember that these homicidal lunatics that started this, want us dead and will be at it again. We have to pay more attention and not advertise it by asking Congress for approval. The government has done it for years but actually try making legal? That's the dumbest thing I've ever heard.
At least the military lately, has done a decent job in the US, Britain, and now Germany. Italians got in their way too, I read. You have to give them credit, especially while the army is stuck between the Martins and the 'Coys in Iraq.
