A really GOOD morning!

Just wanted to share my good fortune! This morning for the first time since well over a year anyway I woke up without a shadow, not even a little one, so I didn't have to head straight for the coffee pot!!! It was great. Yes after an hour or so I had ever increasing shadows so it might not seem much but I assure you it is because IT IS AN IMPROVEMENT!!! Improvement is such a wonderful thing and I am in an excellent mood. I have used Dixarit - clonidine hydrocloride - for about a year which has slowed the onset and damped the symptoms of my CH but possibly made them last longer and am in 3rd week of Topamax - topiramate - and it is working!!! Wahh Hayyy Saffy (from South Wales GB)

After a year of heading to the coffee pot every day, I'm surprised you didn't have to head there just because of the caffeine addiction! I know whereof I speak. Anyhow, glad you have improved. Have a really GOOD rest of your morning.

It is so nice to get replies like the ones ^ up there. Obviously only really wonderful people get CH - must be a gene thing! If most of the time I could get my sleep and then only get a few shadows in the morning like today I'd be happy. It is week after week of being woken ridiculously early etc you know the rest.......gets you down. Anyway thanks again, it is great to have all this support . Saffy

I am always amazed at how almost any positive change in cluster pattern can renew our spirts and energy. We cling to any spark to and use it to recharge our overworked reserves. I admire your spirit Saffy! You are a good example of what being a clusterhead means. We always find the silver lining in situations that would crush lesser people. Clusterheads rule! -Dennis-

I got the impression that ^you lot thought it wouldn't last and yes you were right but still it was a small ray of sunshine I am sure there will be more where that came from. Having lived with this for a long time like so many of you I have learned coping skills and know what I can and can't do !!! I am a therapist and have my own little clinic at home on my farm in rural Wales. I try not to book anyone in for the morning and NEVER EVER before 10! Most appointments are afternoon or evening but the retired do love their morning appointments and have to be gently coaxed to later in the day. I treat sports injuries with very deep massage and also do some manipulation and other therapies. I have had to do treatments whilst having a CH but I have been lucky enough not to have one extreme enough to have to run out screaming yet but I nearly always get mine at night and am surprised at my ability to carry on and also to act as if I am ok. YOU CANNOT tell a client thet you are not well it is NOT what they want to hear they are with you for their health and wellbeing and/or to be pampered!!! Special thanks to whoever invented makeup, layer it on extra thick and paint on a confident smile! That look confident to you? Saffy.... feeling better after - Lots of Coffee and Lots of Hot Chocolate - Yes together in the same mug!!! Nice Very nice

Never underestimate the power of an hour of pain free time - makes us feel invincible doesn't it?! Enjoy every minute Saffy. One thing I think we do learn from CH is to make the most of the good times and thats no bad thing to learn really. I'm glad you have your coping techniques, sounds like you're making the most of every minute you can already and more power to you Have a WONDERFUL weekend Helen x

HI Helen, Yes an hour completely pain free is certainly to be appreciated. I used to spend too much time angry and jealous of those that consider being pain free normal but strangely it no longer bothers me. I have learnt when I can work and when I probably can't and how much I can probably reliably do, so I have prioratised and no longer chase my tail, so am no longer stressed as well. We went to Norway this summer for our hols and unfortunately I had a particularly bad time with CH but if I have learnt one thing it is unless I am on the floor whatever it is I do it anyway. This is because I found at first I kept putting things off waiting for a "good" time which even when I was episodic was unrelaible and a long time coming! The thing is life is short and we never can be sure how short - sorry that sounded a bit morbid. What mean is if there are things in life you want to do don't let anything stop you doing them, it is usually just an excuse anyway. Saffy - getting a little philosophical or perhaps just odd

Glad to hear that Saffy. I've been on topamax since 99 and I think it's wonderful. It's been my miracle drug. (after trying everything on the market - and I mean everything including surgery). I take the whole dose at night before bed and have avoided most of the side effects over the years. As for the shadows - coffee or Red Bull will most of the time abort them if you get them when they're in the early stages. Red Bull is wonderful. Keep the good attitude. That helps more than you know. Hugs BD
