Diana Memorial Service shocker

I'm watching live the Diana, Princess of Wales memorial service. And I'm horrified! The service itself is beautiful and wonderful, but the Finnish journalist and her quest commentators are ruining it for me! The female journalist, part of MTV3 channel's ordinary journalism team, is BAD. It is obvious that she has not done her home work with this piece. She has absolutely no idea what will happen or when and she is constantly asking her quests questions - during the ceremony! (She even asked what her quests thought about William's speech - he quoted the Bible , like one quest, Finland's former embassitor to UK pointed out.) She didn't recognize Cliff Richard, Gordon Brown, Diana's sister Lady Sarah McCorquodale nor members of the royal family. Now, I have not been trained in TV journalism, but isn't it common sense to BE QUIET when something important is going on?! I missed part of Harry's speech because of them. And we missed the arrivals and part of the service as well; the channel decided to have commercial breaks! I want to WATCH the ceremony! I want to HEAR what people at the memorial service are saying! I don't care what some media researcher lady thinks about royal family's new image nor what does the former embassitor thinks about Mr Al-Fayed's conspiracy theories. My BP must be up the roof by now... I even looked up the contact information to this channel, so that I can make official complaint. We LOVE Diana in this country! They had ONE chance with this memorial service and they blew it, big time. Sanna (who could have done a better job with no TV journalism training)

Don't take offence to this, but what the big deal with Diana anyway?? Because she was part of the useless royal family? I can think of a hell of alot better people that have died and didn't get even close to the exposure she did over it. Just trying to figure out why she was so damn popular. What does the royal family do now anyway? Chris

Sanna, go ahead and complaint, it is a memorial service and I think if they are going to show it on TV they need to have a little respect for it.

Sic em Sanna! It's obvious that the TV "Personalities" don't have a clue as to what is considered respectful behavior. And, to Chris and Jim, I don't think it's a fixation on "royalty" per se. Diana was a breath of fresh air in a stagnant monarchy dating back centuries. She was a beautiful, intelligent modern woman, something the "royals" hadn't ever had in their midst before. She broke the mold of what a future Queen was expected to be like. Diana dedicated a large portion of her life to over 100 charities and causes throughout the world. She was well spoken, a great mother to her sons, and a wonderful asset to Britain, even though the royal family may not have thought so. She brought new life, and new hope to the British subjects, and they adored her, as did most of the world. If there is any "fixation" with the British royals now, it's same old...same old. Back to midieval times once again. And the world loses. I can only hope that Elizabeth has enough sense and health to hang on longer, and bypass her son in favor of her grandson. Then, maybe Britains can once again look to the future with their monarchy. Sandy

I'm with Sandy_C here. Diana was so very different from what one *expected* froma *royal*. She brought something to the royal family that was not seen very often by the public, a *humaness* (not a word but does the trick here), that hadn't been seen before. She had troubles just like your every day joe had. Besides that, she was an awesome young woman. 'darlin

| Sorry Sandy, but I have to respectfully disagree with a little of what you said. It is my opinion that if she was such a great mother she wouldn't have been jet-setting all over the world with multiple men while the royal family looked after her sons. If she'd stayed home with them she might still be alive today. I can't work up a lot of sympathy for her when she chose her own course, and lest we forget, it's also close to the 10th anniversary of Mother Teresa's death (Sept 5, 1997). Just my opinion - take what you like and leave the rest.

I have to agree, the whole obsession with Princess Diana is hard to understand. I was living right next to Windsor Castle when she died. I flew in from Paris that very morning, and we heard the news on the plane (I had a very early flight). The paralysis and wailing in England was beyond anything I have ever seen. Flowers literally clogged the roadway near the castle, and that wasn't even her home. All I could say was "Wow", these people really loved their princess. I saw people of every kind simply distraught with sadness, tears streaming down their faces. What the hell? I cried like that when my own twins died. That level of emotions should be reserved for those you really KNOW and love. How in the world did she reach the status where so many people in the world felt like their own mother/sister/daughter/wife died? Simply amazing. I still don't get it. But, I guess there's no real harm in it. People need something... -Fu

She was nice-looking, didn't mind a glimse. One thing I heard about her I liked, when she attended any fund-raising function, walllets opened wide and checks sprung out to contribute beyond any other possible presence.

| It's the same reason that you can't watch figure skating, ski jumping, baseball, football, ballroom dancing, and most anything on the tube without inane narrative. The theory is that if there isn't a lot of blabbing, we'll change the channel. It's true on some levels no doubt. At least Diana beats the Bad Boy from Boise series. Charlie

Royalty is part of our European history, and it's tradition. Diana was beautiful, vulnerable and lived the princess fairy tale that ended tragically, that story has been a part of our popular culture for centuries and she lived it; it's almost Shakespearean. She represented something other than practical. And popular attention has never been deserved by anyone, how would that be earned exactly? Frankly she probably would have lived a happier life without it. I got nothin but good thoughts for her and I can't see a reason to do otherwise. on Aug 31st, 2007, 9:12am, ClusterChris wrote:Don't take offence to this, but what the big deal with Diana anyway??
