The Teacher That Called My Daughter A Retard

was NOT reinstated for the upcoming school year!! YAYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY.. I got a call today informing me that my battle was not in vain & that she will not be given the opportunity to call any other child in our district a Retard again. And by the way...in the same class..with a different teacher for summer school ..my daughter got a final mark of 100!! And being the lil smart a$$ that she is...she walked up to the mean teacher & said "Hows this grade for a Retard?" Did a little happy snoopy dance & walked out! Just thought I would share this little (ALBEIT VERY IMPORTANT) victory! Much Love Shari P.S. Did I mention that the "R" word is not even allowed to be said in my home in a demeaning way? I find it totally unaccpetable that a teacher thought it was ok to say...grrrrrrr

You might want to do a little digging and find out where this "teacher" is spreading her special brand of sunshine around this year. Then make a big sign or two and walk around the building, right near the entrance, at the time all the kids are being dropped off in the morning. I'm sure you can come up with something very creative.

This really burns my ass, because my Mom was told when I was 12 that "I did not apply enough attention" When I got accetpted to go to a tech high school one year early for welding I sure showed them WTF I was made of! I had the teacher digging through car grave sites with me looking for axsels, I took the axsels of the two that I found and made a kickass HEAVY duty trailor......I won the award for best project that year and it was my first year there...........I was 15 years old and I now own a welding company. It seems to me that if you give the kid the attention needed all will be fine, but some times its hard to know what that is. Edit to add: Yes, I found the pic of me and my creation, but its small....oh well.

I like to remind people who use that word that they are only one head injury or blood clot away from being called that name . . . . Gets a lot of "oh . . yeah" responses. Bravo to you for fighting the good fight!

It does my heart good to see parents stand up for their kids. I just wish more would. And Jonny, you're right -- you gotta pay attention to the kids to KNOW what the hell to do with them. Most teachers are just too busy to pay attention to the kids.. and most parents today just don't see that they do. People tend to want to put kids in a mold and turn them out all the same. It just don't work that way... each kid is unique and should be treated that way. They don't all do things at the same age or the same way. Some are mechanical minded and some are book smart (and maybe can't tie their shoes), but each is different. I just don't know why teachers can't figure this out. Oh well, Shari - I'm glad you got bad teacher out of your school -- you deserve a gold star.... Hugs BD

My lil story: My wife and I had LOTS of problems with one of my kids. It was WORK to get this child through school. After he graduated, we happened to run into the school's principal. He told us that he was SO proud of my son, and considered him a true success story. He gave my wife and I full credit for the success. We said no, it was us AND the school working together to reach that goal. He then informed us, as to how rare it was, to get parents like us. We told him that we didn't do anything that any other parent wouldn't do. It was then that the principal informed us as to how rare we were. He said that most parents, now aday, told the school that while the child was at school, the child was not the parent's responsibility anymore. The child is the school's responsibility while the child is there. The parents don't want to hear or be bothered with any problems while the child is there. Can you believe that shit? Congratulations, Shari, of NOT being one of those stupid parents! You done good!!! (See, I gots good English!) I am glad you took the initiative, and it was proved successful! Chuck

Working to get a child through school? I know of what you speak Chuck. I've been actively involved in my son's education from day one - his special circumstances dictated it. The schools have failed him numerous times (so much so that our district superintendent won't even take my calls any more). So this year we're back to Virtual school - fully accredited high school done at home. He plans to graduate by this time next year - at 16.

Good for you! Way to stand up for your kid. The most important teacher your kids have no matter where they are schooled is a parent. Chuck and his ex, and Mosaicwench are both examples of this. Jerry

Good for you, Shari! And congrats to your daughter for the brilliant mark! I recall my school teachers with nothing but the best. I had plenty of remarkable teachers. My first teach went far beyond to bring the best out of all of us, even this one kid, a boy, whose parents surely didn't care. I believe that great teachers can do wonders! I can thank one of mine for understanding my deep love for the English language and 4 others for supporting my love for writing. Sanna

Way to go Shari and a big WOOHOO for your daughter! I have a teacher of my own to "hunt down" so I can see the look on HER face- that b*tch tried reamed me a new one saying that Hannah (age 11 at the time) would end up getting into nothing but trouble, was going to turn out to be promiscuous and into drugs because we were a single parent household and there was no man around to be a leader to her. I blasted her ass back saying You know her 1 hour a day for 6 months and you come up with THAT?????????? I'll be taking Han's portfolio of all her awards, her gorgeous beauty contest win, and of course, tell that b*tch SHE'S STILL A VIRGIN AND SHE'S DAMN PROUD TO BE. A teacher of Harry's put us thru hell and wanted him in special education. A whole battery of tests, doctors, shrinks and a meeting with the school board. The principal of the school reviews all the results, gave the teacher the NASTIEST look I've ever seen and says: This kid doesn't have a learning disability. He's a GENIUS. The look on her face was PRICELESS! Shari, you keep stickin up for your daughter!!!! Mom knows best!

| Thats funny stuff right there. Good for her. I hope now the dumb ass teacher can realize that when retards get perfect scores and she isnt working there anymore, maybe it was the teaching ability of the teacher and not the retardedness of the students. Now THATS a victory.

Years ago I worked evenings and our city needed substitute teachers after a multi-million dollar, 21 person, city administration embezzlement erased teachers raises and many teachers left for greener pastures. I helped out teaching anything and everything every single school day. Being a sub is difficult when it comes to cooperation in class. A sixth grade class handed in an easy assignment I gave them and I looked some papers over. It was apparent none had paid any attention, which I knew, and the assignment was taken lightly by them. After running through a few papers, made a general statement, to no one in particular. I said, "I was teaching a third grade class this morning and thought I mixed up my papers reading these." Wow. After my last class I was in the vice-principal's office. Several had reported I publically embarassed those in class and he said I showed a lack of proper sensitivity. He was not overbearing about it but DID have to do his job. It was a notice to me, checking me out, am I the type of person that would go further in this direction. In that respect I saw some reasoning about it all. My mistaken concern was the lack of learning in class, he avoided conversation on that, it apparently was not the subject or my opinion to say. I'm no disciplinarian so the class attitude was difficult to keep in hand, especially as a sub, but their work was even worse. I of course shouldn't have said it, but without a doubt your daughter's teacher comment was unthinkable. No student is worthy of that. Yeah and love your daughter's final mark!!!!
