Non-ch medical question.....
« on: Aug 22nd, 2007, 6:54pm »
Quote Quote Modify Modify

Hi everyone,

I need some help. My 31 yr old sister has been having alot of " undiagnosed" medical problems lately. First they said she had hypoglycemia and then vertigo because she would have times where she would get really shaky and her heart would race and she would get dizzy..... then she has an episode at work the other day and someone brought her to the ER and 1/2 hour later her heart rate was at 144 bpm. They think that she has Tachycardia?  Has anyone ever heard of this or know anything about it? I am really worried.

Thank you in advance

She needs to see a cardiologist first of all.
I do have tachycardia. it is a form of arrythmya and she needs medication to keep the heart beat under control.

If she suffers from HBP that is an added factor of risk.

It feels like your heart is racing and you can hear the heart beat in your ears and sometimes you might faint. Dizziness is possible because the heart is making an extra effort to bring O2 to the brain. She definetly needs to be checked out by a Doctor and have an electro.

Just my 2 cents  Wink

Hope She gets to feel better soon.

Thanks for this info Rosy... Smiley  She has an appt for the beginning of Sept. but is having a hard time right now because she really cant do anything without her heart racing and feeling dizzy etc. It just is waying on her mentally as well. She said that her mind is calm but her body feels all stressed out.

Thank you for the advice.  Kiss

My heartfelt sympathy for your sister and you who have to help her through this difficult time.  I hope that she gets a thorough medical workup; I also hope that the results are negative-some of the symptoms that she has been having can be caused by either physical problems or stress.  I hope that it is stress, because that can be treated more easily than a serious physical ailment, though extreme stress is not something to be pooh-poohed and left untreated can cause serious problems.  My best wishes that she has good doctors who are empathetic; I've run into some who tend to dismiss stress related disorders and if she gets one of those, find another doc.  Best wishes for a speedy recovery.

thanks big-OUCH   we will see how her appt goes. I would be happy if it is just a stress related situation vs. a medical one. High anxiety runs in the family so it wouldn't be a shock... not fun either way.

Has your sister had any thyroid labs done?  Hyperthyroidism can cause some of the problems that you listed.

I went thru some of the same things years ago....tachycardia, vertigo, shakiness, extreme weight loss....lots of medical problems.  Was finally diagnosed with hyperthyroidism.

She has had alot of blood work done because they initially told her that it was hypoglycemia but not sure they tested for hypothyroidism or not I would assume so but who knows. I really dont think a majority of the drs that she has seen have a clue really. Big suprise.  Roll Eyes

Thank you for the idea I will ask her tonight and see.

By definition, anyone with a heart rate of 144 has tachycardia (it means 'fast heart').  It could be a symptom of some other disease, or in a few cases, caused by changes to the nerves to the heart.

Impossible to diagnose her here, but if she has hypoglycemia and/or anxiety or panic disorders, those could all cause the same symptoms.  I had a constellation of symptoms similar to that, and it all pretty much disappeared when I went to a very low carb diet for a few days. Then I gradually start adding complex carbs (fruits and veggies). It keeps me feeling good until the gradual erosion of my moderate carb maintainence diet means I am eating corn chips, rice, ice cream, and all those sugary foods. Then I get the jitteryness, fast/irregular heart beat, feel short of breath, dizzyness, anxiety, fatigue and panic back.  Which is about the time I restrict my diet again.

It could also be an overactive thyroid gland, or any of a hundred other things. She needs to keep working with a doctor to rule out specific conditions.  The doctors might offer some advice (like try cutting out caffeine) but when I had these symptoms, they did not talk about diet at all - they wanted to prescribe drugs to turn down the alarm bells.

The Greek Goddess Aphrodite has numerous equivalents: Inanna (Sumerian counterpart), Ishtar (Babylon), Astarte (Syro-Palestinian), Turan (Etruscan), Nepthys (Egyptian) and Venus (Roman). She has parallels to Indo-European dawn goddesses such as Ushas or Aurora.

To remove limescale, soak a paper towel in lemon juice, cover limescale with it for one hour before rinsing. Repeat as necessary. Do not use on thinly plated surfaces, such as gold taps.

To whiten your whites, soak the fabrics in lemon juice for 15 minutes then wash as usual.

To buff brass or copper, mix juice with coarse salt crystals, dip a soft cloth into the mixture, then rub away the tarnish. Polish up with a dry cloth

Cool,

How many lemons does it take to fill the washer for soaking a load of whites?
