A Hispanic guy just came in the back yard, petted the dog and then came in my house. We called the cops and found out he tried to break into another house on our block. I do security so I have a very good alarm system and 4 cameras on my garage with a commercial DVR. The illegal alien problem is really getting bad here in Minneapolis. So is the crime. I got my work van hit 6 months ago for $1K worth of tools. It’s hard enough to get my sleep with the CH and now Iv’e got invaders to worry about too. Oh well now I have to try to get some sleep! Rolo.

Maybe it's time to get another dog. Rotties, Dobies and German Shepherds make great deterrents. Even if we know their friendly, intruders won't.

| Nope, already got two dogs. I also have a 4 and 6 yr old that are more important than a mean guard dog. The 45's gona stay more handy in the future though! Roland.

Aw, he's cute. Just so ya know... a dog doesn't have to be mean, or be trained as a guard dog to be a deterrent. My grandkids have been raised around quite a few shepherds, and the dogs have been great! My dogs would die for us, I'm sure. And, should anyone start to break in, being greeted by one or more big dogs, even if they aren't growling, would probably stop them. Who wants to find out if a dog is mean, after they invade their territory?

That is the worst feeling when a stranger crosses your threshold...Im sorry that happened...and that was freaky on his part. Some guy (a stranger) broke into my house when it was light out...I was sleeping due to a CH...and the way the bed was positioned, and I was positioned (lying on my side) he didn't see that my husband was next to me.... I mean he was striding towards me...I opened my eyes looked straight at him...I didn't think I made a sound, I was in such utter shock...my husband told me I was screaming, that is what woke him up... My husband jumped up, grabbed a hunting knife and barreled towards him and said "Who the hell ARE you??"... the guy turned and ran. It was a very bad feeling...even afterwards knowing a complete stranger had been inside my house.

That's scary... My home is my haven and it's even more important for me now when I'm in cycle. I have thought about many times what I'd do if someone would try to break into my appartment. I just don't know. (Of course Timo would probably say that when I can sleep, I woudn't even wake up to witness anything whereas he hears anything and everything ) But, perhaps, if someone would break into our place now, we'd know that that someone is one of our neighbours or related to them, because the door to our building are locked at 8pm. And when I'm getting hit I'd probably scare the hell out of anyone who has no idea what I have... Trying to see the silver lining here... Sanna

| Oh you don't want to see me with a gun, believe me! Or, more likely, to be within firing distance from me... I know what I can do with a rifle; thanks to my dad, an avid hunter, who taught me how to use a BB-gun when I was very young and what to do with a rifle when I was older. Dad used to hunt moose and he was very good. When I was 17, a PF teacher took us girls to a shooting track (or what you call it). It puts people's thought into a perspective, when the smallest one gets the best result... There's a reason I got the permit to carry dad's old rifle after his death and mum didn't. And there's a reason we don't have a gun in our house. Look at it this way, my guard "dogs" are guinea pigs... But they do growl and bite like the real thing... Sanna

Me, I'm not worried. If an intruder came to my house -- I've got CH - what the hell could they do to me? I've got a blind mini-pin (Rudy) who would bark his little heart out (and wake me up) and a 70 pound pitt/boxer (Homer) who would knock them down being friendly, and two cats (Moe and Joe) who would bite their ears off trying to get attention. By then I'd probably have time to find my gun and load it. But the intruder would probably be gone by then (if he wasn't - then he'd be dumber than dirt). Anyhow I live so far out in the country, only my neighbors (and the whole town - 8 miles away) know what goes on up on top of this hill! But then - I've got CH - I don't worry too much about anything. Hugs BD

| My pleasure! Barb, it sounds like your neighbourhood is just like what our is like - when we're at summer cottage. I know that the cottage itself is located in so rural area that rarely anyone ever comes there uninvited - and even quests get lost on their way! But that can backfire; the neighbours (nearest permanent residence I mean) are kilometers away. That's long way to run if someone comes over and you're in trouble. And we have no dogs, cats and guns to protect there; just normal kitchen knives and common sense. During the daytime I enjoy the peaceful surroundings, but when the night falls, I tend to worry a bit. I do know that the most of the people nearby are worth to trust and down to earth, but still... You never know what kind of folks their friends bring along and what their partners are alike. So far, so good, but thr summer cottage is the one place left where my dad feel "alive", so I'd hate to see something bad happening to the place. Sanna
