Am watching it live on Fox news. Has any news person said "terrorism" yet? Minneapolis has a large Muslim population and they've been talking "heartland" strike for awhile now . . . . just a random thought. (edited to add: Homeland security says there's nothing to see here, move along, no terrorism . . . .) God bless those folks involved, injured, or dead.

That's one of the first thoughts I had too, Pat but it's too early to tell. However it happened, it's tragic and only going to get worse at time goes on.

Thats great, they cut down on the number of pillars to hold this roadway up so that it didnt fuck with the flow of the river. Hmmmm, must be the same company that built the big dig in Boston!

It looks to me like a structural failure. It could be caused by a number of reasons: poor quality of materials, steel failure (frequency, wind, etc), overload (underestimate), not enough support for the amount of weight (foundations) or bad design and someone made a HUGE mistake ....

I drive over that bridge almost every day, sometimes 6 times a day. I live just 2 miles from it. The construction company (PCI) has been chipping out the concrete around the expansion joints. I saw holes around the joints in the closed off lanes big enough to drive a golf cart through last week. I’m sure this has to have contributed in part to the failure. Scary, I’ll have to drive the Hennepin Ave. Bridge tomorrow and see the aftermath for my self. Life will only suck sooo much more with the extra traffic time. Roland.

What a horrible thing to happen. I don't know where to begin with knowing what to think or say but my deepest sympathies to the families of those lost and also to the poor buggers working on the bridge. They must be really suffering now too. The "ordinary" guys I mean
