MRI Tonight.......anxiety is getting to me

I have to go have an MRI scaan tonight at 7pm. I have a history of pituitary tumor that is not related to the CH. I haven't been scanned in over two years so the New Neuro guy wants it done. I really hate havin em done. I have really rotten veins, and will get stuck a zillion times to get the IV in, and I dread being in that monster of a machine with all the banging. I have enough bangin in my head right now, and I don't need anymore. My anxiety is out of control. I just need someone to understand....I don't know what I need. I feel so bad to have to drag my Hubby and little baby there too. I know he says he doesn't mind, but I do. I have been watching the clock all day. Hubby says it will be good to know that it is just the CH and then we can just concentrate on that....I am just soooo tired, tired of all this.

You know its funny but sometimes in spite of all the horrific pain we go through we focus on something that with hindsight isn't so bad and make a mountain out of it.
I do the same with IV's. I've had a lot of veins collapse this year (been a bit of a sicky twit!) and I dread IV's - I'll have anything ele done and not think about it but those IV's .. I even had a colonoscopy AND an endoscopy on the same day without sedation for either simply because I was so scared of having the IV inserted!! I know - I'm obviously insane (you're new - you'll work this out!  )
Hang in there. Breathe. Breathe in for a count of seven and try and breathe out for count of eleven. It works - you think about the numbers rather than what is bothering you or that is how it works for me anyway.
Remember as well that the MRI itself isn't so bad, the IV takes but a minute but you are panicking over other things you can't control as much as this issue. Here we have an anaesthetic cream they put on kids before giving them sedation etc and it completely numbs the area. Ask for something like that for you as with a bit of luck the "relaxing" of sensation might make your veins easier to access - I hope so!

Everything will come out ok. You will be fine and then you can put all that anxiety behind you. I know MRI are scary, ask if they can put some music for you so you can concentrate on something else.

I've had MRI myself, so I can only talk about that (I kept on thinking about peaceful, suuny beaches while in there...). Lots of "you can do it" vibes are on their way for it all. I do hope that you will let us know how it went.

Hello All,
I made it through...It was not fun, but it was manageable. The IV was fine, she did get it in on her first try which was a blessing. I must say that those silly ear plugs did not help the banging in my head! Ugh. It seemed to go on forever, but once it was over I felt very relieved I must say. Once home it was late, and of course I got hit with a kip 10 the minute I got through the door. It was a rough night, but today is a new day. Thank you all for the support you are all greatly appreciated! And Helen you singing to me during my MRI.....the drunken sailor song really helped....I could not laugh at you though..as I was suppposed to be still!! But thank you!

I'm glad to hear all went as well as it could - don't forget to let us know the results when you get them back.
I'm sorry you got hit so hard though - I think its BobG who says "Never relax" and it sounds that that might have been what caused that. Some people find that stress causes them and others find that when the stress stops they get hammered - just something else for you to think about!
Of course if you find you are one of the ones for whom stress HELPS block hits I'll happily lend you my kids on indefinite loan... you should never get hit again with those little - um- treasures "helping" you out!!

Oh Helen you are funny! I have my own little treasure though......4 teenage boys ages 17,16,15,14 and one little sweet baby boy only 5 months old!! Stress usually is my trigger, but last night you may be right the minute I took a deep breath I got hit hard...hmmm...I would love to come to convention next year..where is it?
