Thank you Jonny - that was awesome! On a secondary note, I've always thought it was funny that General Billy Mitchell grew up near Douglas MacArthur and thought good old Douglas was a bit of a 'nancy boy."

| Billy Mitchell was correct. MacArthur lived with his mother until he was in his 40's when she died. When he went to West Point his mother moved to the town near there and rented an apartment from which she was able to see his room. MacArthur didn't marry until after his mother's death and he had to be very careful about the affairs that he had because he feared his mother's wrath. He was a strange and complex man and had a HUGE ego. He was fired by Truman during the Korean war because he continually disobeyd Truman's orders and publically disagreed with Truman about decisions that Truman made about the Korean War. Had Truman not had the strength to fire MacArthur (who was just about the most popular public figure in the US), it was and is considered likely that the US could have had a military coup d'etat. There is an excellent biography of MacArthur, written by, I believe, James Michener. It is long out of print but should be available in a library-it is well worth reading and gives good insight into MacArthur who, while his military feats were unsurpassed during WWII, became a "loose cannon" in his later years. When, after he was fired, he attempted to run for president, the American people realized thatt he was a dangerous man (he wanted to use nuclear weapons in Korea) and American common sense prevailed and his attempt to get the Republican nomination fizzeled out rather quickly. It is interesting that his only child, a son, not only did not follow his father's footsteps in the military but also legally changed his name when he was in his 20's and has chosen to live in anonimity.

For the benefit of new people Klusterkopf /CHTom/John is our resident troll. He serves no purpose except to confuse, obfuscate and distress posters while providing a wealth of misinformation of his own. The best response to him is no response. All we do is inform people as best we can that his posts are unsound. He goes by many names, Klusterkopf is his latest.

Loved the link, Jonny. Wish we had a few more like Patton around now, but in our current PC society they would not make it. McArthur was an egotistical fool that weighed all of his operations by whether or not he would get the kind of credit he looked for. Ask any of the Marines or the submarine officers in the southern Pacific what they thought of Dugout Doug. My uncle served as his chief of staff during the operation of Japan. Jerry

Charlie, Its footage from the movie where Patton gives a speech on a stage in front of a huge American flag. Only most of the voice is done by a sound alike dude talking about the war on terror. (Patton style) Thats the basics of it, you get the picture.
