What we've got here, is a failure to communicate.

I’ve got to vent a little.  So apologies in advance.

I’ve been working for a company that’s not doing so well for 3 years now.  They did ok for the first year but there was a bad acquisition, 3 layoffs, and now they might move the facility 1.5 hours away.  My current commute is 20 minutes and I like being close to home if I can.

So I get a call from some friends that I used to work with two weeks ago. They say they could really use me on a new project at their company.  I go, check it out and everything looks good.  Company is growing, they’re a half hour away, have good technology and good people.  We negotiate and they make an offer which I accept.

So Monday I go into my boss and give my notice.  He asks me the reasons etc…  Yesterday (Tuesday) he calls and asks “were you faking these headaches so you could interview”?  WTF?  Have you ever been so pissed and you open your mouth and nothing comes out?  Now I’m pissed at myself for not blowing up.

I’ve suffered from episodic CH for 12 years.  I finally find a Nuro that gives me my diagnosis, I find this amazing site and family, I find the coworkers letter and share it with people at work I (that thought I could) trust so they can understand what’s going on.  I’ve worked for this guy for three years.

Is he that clueless?  Is his memory that short term?  Am I that good at hiding CH?  Could he possibly think I’m that shallow?  Is he just pissed and lashing out?  I just don’t get it.  And it sure gives me one more big reason to leave.

Yes, yes, yes, yes, and yes.

He's a boss. Most of them are more concerned with "what have you done for me lately."

usually old bosses become old bosses for good reason..... probably the same kind of guy who would spend more time trying to figure out who screwed up than trying to solve a problem in a system.

go enjoy your new job with no regrets!

Brew put it very well "Yes, yes, yes, yes and YES!!"

So did George...the heck with him and what he doesn't or does believe, if he really even meant it.  He was probably speaking out of hurt and anger...but that's no longer your concern.

Thanks everyone.  I appreciate the answers to my rhetorical questions  Grin  I just needed to vent some frustration.  It's all in the rear view mirror now.

It'll be fun hiding my CH from the new boss  Lips Sealed till my rep is established anyway.  I'm hoping the hits stay at bay for a while longer.

PF wishes to all.  Thanks again...

You have to understand that people who haven't experienced CH don't have a clue. To him you get headaches period!!!!
Burning bridges is never a good idea if it can be avoided. Try once more to explain why you are leaving.

You did your part when you tried to inform him about CH.

Dennis, I fully understand. The ex-bitch-boss shit canned me after telling me I could take time off to get off of dopeymax....I took the time off, she said I had a bad attitude toward my work......HEY STUPID BITCH I COULDNT FUNCTION AND HELL YEAH MY ATTITUDE SUCKED is what I wanted to scream at her. (only I couldn't think of the words at the time LOL)

Fuck her. I've got a much better working environment with a boss who actually WATCHES MY EYE to see if its drooping.

Things happen for a reason. This is your opportunity for a better opportunity. Don't worry about burning bridges; your old boss burned it before you got there.

Wishing you much luck in your new venture.
Jen

let me explain.
Some one gets another job and gives notice, not because the boss is an ass but because the commute is going to be inconvenient and the co. isn't doing so well.
There is nothing wrong with that.
The new job sounds like it's in the same field and even maybe a competitor. The new employee is going into the job without informing the new company of a medical precondition that will affect the work at some point.
If the old boss is really an a$$hole then what you say or do from now on wont matter. If he feels like he just got stabbed in the back and wants revenge. He may call the new company and drop hints that the new employee they just hired has medical issues.
If the old boss isn't really an a$$hole but just got pissed and said something stupid then an attempt to smooth things out may keep someone from the unemployment line.
WTF, Why is it so hard to try and leave on good terms? Even if it doesn't work at least you will have tried.

Karma, Eric: I've never burned a bridge in my life Wink This industry is just too small.  There are maybe 500 Software Engineers that do what I do in the country and probably half that up here in the NE.  I vented here so as not to vent to the boss.  It's probably a good thing I couldn't find the words at the time    argue   We're ok.  He's taking me out to lunch Friday.  I promise to be good.  thumb

Jen, I'm glad you found a more understanding situation.  That's got to help a lot.

Thanks for listening...  PF wishes and hugs to you all.
