Here's whats been up.......

Most of you know that I semi-"retired" last November. I just stressed out every day on my way to work because of the mounting pressure of the consequences of the nurses- to- patients ratio. So now (for the past 3 weeks) I have a fun, part-time job at Cracker Barrell in the retail store. Flip side of this is.......being a Capricorn and having a black umbrella over my head......my boss advised me on Tuesday that I would be put on the schedule as of July 26 to unload trucks every Thursday. I know that I can't physically do this.......I'm an old broad (just ask Barb) with a pacemaker. My boss doesn't know I'm old or that I have a pacemaker and I haven't told her yet because I need the extra money and won't tell her until the 25th.....just in case. I'm going job hunting tomorrow. Wish me luck. I also do caregiving occassionally. Picture this.....I'm entertaining a beautiful 96 year old lady who has the slightest short-term memory loss. She answered questions on Wheel of Fortune!!! Well, her home has a sunken dining room and I'm setting the table for dinner. The step-up is about 2" and the carpeting is plush and also stark black (red and white furniture). So here I go spritely walking into the living room to announce that dinner is ready, trip over the step, flail across the floor at 30 mph trying to re-gain my balance and smash face first (right cheek bone) into the frame of the couch she is sitting on. I moved that couch about 8 inches with just my face....aren't I amazing? Scared the hell out of her as the couch moved. Did I get hurt? Not even a black eye....just a purple big toe and a sore neck....just temporary as it's getting better already. So, there's my "day in the life of Donna". Donna,. you are right, your boss will not care if you are old or if you have a peacemaker... maybe if you find another old lady with a lot nicer house than the one you are currently taking care for. a hint? craigslist.org and look for your city. When we were very strap for money here I look there and I found a babysitting job to to do at my home, lucky enough that the baby is cute as a button and his Mommy paid me really well during those 6 months I watched her child. now we are very good friends and the baby is like my own. I no longer watch him because his Granma moved with them, but I have seen jobs taking care of elderlys that pay very well $12-15 the hour and in nice houses too. You should look into those. I am Capricorn also and I understand what you mean

Hey Donna, I lived in Florida for six years (largo/clearwater) up until 9 or 10 mos. ago. I know there is a high demand for "companions" to the elderly. Is there any way you can captilize on nursing...such as spending only a few hrs with a number of people, doing light cleaning, some laundry, giving them their meds? I knew some lady that did that and made a fortune...without you comprising your mental health. Cracker Barrell sounds cool because of the benefits!! Just an hour ago, I finished my "extra sharp cheddar" by, of course Cracker Barrel...I can understand the job may not be so cool....see??? you look young and no one would even think twice about askng you to do straining work...oh the stress of beauty!!! Just a thought.
