My mum (Connie) celebrated her 84th birthday last Saturday. She has lived on her own since my father died over 30 years ago. She has always been a strong, independant and healthy lady. However, she suffered a mini stroke on Monday that has affected her speech. She is now in hospital being well looked after. What we and the hospital have to do now is to try to prevent this from recuring, but she is such an independant and stubborn person, and it is that independance that I am sure has kept her so healthy up to now. I don't want to restrict her too much because I think that will have an adverse effect. Get well vibes would be very much appreciated. Mike

Hmm, Michael, I recognize the same hue and cry! My Mother died just last week, at age 82. I don't think I really noticed as she was headed downhill-she had been such a strong woman, so independant. Fact is, at some point, and maybe you are lucky enough to have recognized it right away, things begin to happen, and they are taken down repeatedly, till they just can't get up any longer. From where I stand, I see this as unavoidable. This is the time you cherish every moment with your Mum! Best wishes to her for a speedy, complete recovery! Cathi

Michael.......I know this is a very scarey time for your family and I and others are sending vibes and prayers. After a stroke, it takes a couple of days to determing the real damage. Her not being able to talk just might pass in a day or two. It takes a little time to determine the lasting damage. Prayig for your Mom.........
