Rain Rain Go Away!

Well, here it is - Day 20 of the rain, beating the old record of 14 straight days set back in 1937. Stillwater had 16.7" of rain in June. Only 1 town in the state has had more rain and that was Copan at 18.2". Central Oklahoma gets an average of 36" of rain per year. We've had about 32" so far this year and still it comes down. More than once over the last 20 days I have been out in the rain digging, re-opening and widening drainage trenches so my house wouldn't flood. At one point it got within about 1/4" of coming in the house and I live in a higher area. I'm one of the lucky ones, though. Lots of people have lost everything.

Mike, I hope you get a break from the rain soon. Just watching some news on it on CNN and it is very bad. Just checked out your site and it is pretty cool. Hope you get some relief from the beast, sounds like you are having a tough go of it. Vibes coming your way. Barry

Mike, I hope that some of this moment's lovely sunshine will shine at your neck of the woods next. We had pouring rain earlier, accompanied by thunder storm (actually I thought that someone upstairs wanted to tell me to stay inside, because since I've been back to Jyväskylä I've went out four times and during 3 of them it started to rain.) Hugs, Sanna

Heard you all were getting pretty soggy over there, Mike. I'm glad to hear that it wasn't worse for you--hope those who have not been so fortunate come through okay. I know that some haven't. Just the opposite here--sunny for the "nth" day in a row, and hotter than a cheap cigar. Looks like it will be a spooky fire season this year. There's a blaze going over on the NW side of Yellowstone Park near West Yellowstone that went from 0 to 3200 acres in a couple of days. Locally, the high desert outside town is like tinder, and the 4th of July is coming. Despite fireworks bans in the foothills, there are always a few morons who shoot them off anyway. The 4th is like Beirut here--explosions in all directions, followed by the sounds of sirens all night long. They're going to be imposing $1000 fines for illegal fireworks this year--plus those who start a little range fire can expect to pay the whole cost of suppressing it, and that can run into the millions, what with aerial bombing with fire retardant, and what have you. Hope it helps, but I doubt it. Best, George

Yep, I've seen in the news how Texas is having a rough time as well. Supposedly, the low pressure that has been stalled out over Oklahoma is finally going to move South, which is going to cause even more trouble there.

We've been lucky so far, only afternoon rains. Had a bit of a thunderboomer yesterday, but didn't get anything here at the house. Did fry the modem on Jimbo's computer at his shop though. Seen any one doing a strange dance with a buzzard feather? Last time we had flooding that bad was when one of our friends wanted the day off from work, so he did his *rain* dance with a buzzard feather. Damned near flooded the whole city. Want to borrow a pirouge or two? Plans for an ark?

Parsons has no gas, the refinery in Coffeeville is underwater and the routes in and out are closed. Apparently I got back into town just in time Sunday. Highway 59 is now closed. We got 21 inches of rain in the last few days here. Whats worse, they got more rain up north and the rivers and creeks aren't suppose to crest until tomorrow. More rain is coming too. http://www.parsonssun.com/news/articles/flood070207.shtml

It sounds just like here! NOT good! I'm so sick of rain that I'm just longing for some sun and warmth and I'm one of the lucky ones as we've had no "flooding" here. Just severely waterlogged ground. Some parts of the country are having a diabolical time so lets hope it settles for everyone soon. Psssst Gator - now might be the time to dig out the plans for an OUCH ARK never mind a yacht!!

Unbelievable Gator. It really doesn't sink in watching the Weather Channel. Yikes. It's hard for us living in the foothills of the Alleghenys to grasp this kind of thing....that and we are having one of our driest summers in years. We'd be happy if you could send some our way. Thanks for the pictures too Matt. Charlie

I think right now half of Texas is declared a disaster area because of the rain. I just looked outside and we're being blessed with MORE of the wet stuff. Gator (and I hate to say it this way) I KNOW how you feel! I think my feet are getted webbed. I live on top of a hill and if it don't stop I'm NOT going to have a way to get up here - my drive is about gone. Caleb is with me this week and he's shaking his stick (with the feathers) that Jimbo made him and doing his Indian dance telling it to GO AWAY! He is definitely NOT an INSIDE kiddo. Let's just hope we get a break soon..... Hugs BD

We are basically an island, Parsons got lucky that some levees north of us failed, but it put a pretty big hurt on Fredonia but saved us, it relieved the Neosho river enough to save us. The UP has 2 miles of Main track that is just gone so our service is going to be out for quite some time. It'll be Monday before we get any fuel here, (or so I'm told). Parsons have filled up with people that have evacuated the surrounding towns. Alot of people have lost everything, not including the crop damage. People here are helping each other, and i haven't heard one person blame the goverment for any of the levee failures yet........
