The lesson in active love

The kids are back from Eleuthera Bahamas. My son got home last night, tired, wired, exhausted and charged all at the same time. No surprise to me: every time they have gone on one of these mission trips they come home like that- but also a "different person". I've only heard my kids' side of what happened on each trip and have seen and heard how each trip has affected them. For once, I got to hear first-hand how the mission kids affected those they spent time with: in this case, the young kids and teens of Eleuthera. Harry relayed this story to me, the ONLY story he has shared, but I could tell, he was profoundly affected by it. He was a part of a group sharing Bible stories to a group of about 12 young kids. They told the story of Jesus washing the disciples' feet and explained to them that loving one another is not just in word or when its convenient for us but at all times, and putting others' needs above our own. To illustrate, Harry and the other teacher washed each others' feet. One young boy got up, and with a big smile on his face, outstretched his leg and presented his bare foot. They washed his feet. The boy whose feet had just been washed picked up the cloth and turned to the next child...........and washed his feet. That child too, did the same to the next. Each child understood the significance of the act and down the line they went, one child washing the next's. I share this with all of you for a reason. Do we not do the same here, with each other? Even in our hardest times, all of us put aside our problems and pain and "serve" each other without question and without hesitation. Active love. What a beautiful lesson. With much love, Jen

That is great, yet simple, lesson for all of us to recall. I've always thought that it's truly the simple things which matter the most. Washing someone else's legs, going to the store to buy some food when someone else is sick (thanks, Timo!), saying the right words at the right time... many simple things can make all the difference. I've seen this happen here on many occasions. People help others in a manner, which is incredble. And they do it without asking for huge thanks, reward or such because they know that when they will need a helping hand, they will get help then. To my ch family... May your days & nights be PF, Sanna

Jen, a very beautiful story and one that can and should be interpreted and transposed into many facets of our lives. The way we treat each other, the way we should respect the earth, how not to allow ourselves to slip into the false sense of superiority over others who may not have had the educational and lessons in values that we have been privileged to have had. I think someone like our George could draw many articulate parallels from this story. I congratulate you on raising some great kids and look forward to hearing more about their adventures. Matt, I think I know what you mean, but just to clarify I am someone who "takes what I need and leaves the rest", but my definition of this is that I take the good and leave the bad. I then try to share the good with others, especially my fellow Clusterheads. Great story and an inspirational start to a day where I think I will need to draw on it and other positive thoughts often. Love and good thoughts from my family to all of yours .........Tim & Lin
