Members of Congress already know there is a severe problem regarding health care in America. What is an email going to do?
I just talked to my agent this morning. My plan is going up to $784 a month for just us 3 in the family. (If we have another baby, the cost will be about $1,100)
Just to put that in perspective: my mortgage is only $900. Owning a home is the American dream, but health insurance costs almost as much for tiny families, and much more for larger families.
More perspective: Average hourly wage in the USA is about $16 per hour. This equates to $2079 per month in just a 25% total tax bracket. My health insurance is more than 1/3 the total average hourly take home pay.
This health care issue is much more important, and urgent than the immigration issue and the energy issue.
I dont know what the answer is, but i am pretty sure it isnt writing an email to my Senator. All he will do is use it as a campaign issue and then never do anything about it.

Perhaps American should really look at the European Health Care System. We too pay quite a bit for our health insurance, but when we are ill we do not have to worry about hospital bills or expensive medication costs and we manage to live quite well here. We can even choose our own doctors and, if one wants to, one can purchase private health insurance which, though expensive, has such perks as a private room in a hospital and not having to be referred by a General Practioner to a specialist. Both systems work quite well. I do not think that anyone should have to pay 1/3 of one's income for health insurance. This year the US came in number 37 on the list of best health care, just below Sierra Leone. I do hope that your politicians change your system.

I do not understand why you are defending a system that has denied you health insurance! I remember from past years that any thought of a European type health care system in American was presented as "evil Socialism", but every European country has such a system and they work quite well. Perhaps money could be obtained for it by your government no longer paying farming corporations money for NOT growing crops and there are many other types of "socialism" in your country, but they tend to support big businesses. The American Medical Association is one of the most vocal advocates of denying adequate health care to all. I can tell you that, despite our system, medical doctors are quite well paid, into the hundreds of thousands of Euros, plus the extra money from the private health insurers, speaking engagements, etc. You do not sound too happy with your situation-would you not like to at least not to have to worry about your health care?
We do not understand American thinking on this matter-it is the people who are suffering because of it, yet they don't want a system that would take that worry away.

I was saying that Michael Moore isn't going to help anyone except for his own advantage and writing my Senator isn't going to do squat either.
Helen, when Jim took an early retirement from the Red Cross, he got on Cobra which is what most people do for the 1st 18 months. After that it was up to us to find something else. Jim researched for months, made calls and we had several Ins. agents come out to the house.
I was denied because of CH and the only Ins. we could get was Major medical. The Hippa plan HAS to, by law insure us for that.
