Overseas travel tips?

My daughter leaves for Krakow Poland around the first of July. She will be staying at the university there for 6 weeks, while taking an intensive course in the Polish language. HEr room and meals are paid for, so we dont' have to worry about that. She hasn't flown that much and when she did, she was with me, so she doesn't have much experience navigating airports. She flies out of Jackson MS to Chicago IL, from there to Munich and then to Krakow. Any travel tips or advice? Please, no horror stories, I can think of enough of those without any help 'darlin

In Chicago and Munich she shouldn't have any problem finding someone who speaks English . . . well, at least not in Munich. O'Hare is HUGE . . . if possible allow plenty of time to get to the connecting flight.

A few travel tips. Wear shoes that can easily be taken off and on. No liquid over four ounces. Bring large gallon size baggies to put any liquids four oz and under in, along with any meds that will be taken on plane. If the suitcase is locked, they want to check it and you are not around to unlock it, they will break the lock on your suitcase. Carry on any and all valuables. Patience Happy Traveling Beth

There is also a lock of some kind on a few suitcases that supposedly is openable by security with a passkey...but don't count on our bunch having one. Homeland Security is like Wile E. Coyote here. Hope you have a great time though. Charlie

Actually, as far as liquids are concerned, such as shampoo, toothpaste, conditioner, mouthwash, make-up, whatever, you can have no more than 3 oz containers, and they must fit inside a single quart sized zip top bag. The bag must be taken out, and put through xray separately, just like your shoes, and laptop, jacket, etc, if taken in a carry on bag. You can include the bag in checked luggage, but it still has to be 3 oz containers in the same sized bag. You can see what can be taken at the TSA website: http://www.tsa.gov/travelers/airtravel/prohibited/permitted-prohibited-i tems.shtm#1 There are combination locks available to lock your luggage, that the TSA can open with a master key. Take all meds and any valuables on the plane with you. Also, any electronic equipment, laptop, camera, cell phone. It would be a good idea to take a change of clothing in a carry on bag too, in case her luggage gets misplaced. Wear comfortable clothing. I'm not sure what they will serve on an overseas flight, to eat, but she can pick up some food, and a drink to take on the plane when she is in O'Hare. O'Hare is pretty big, but is navigable. And there are food vendors all over the place. Hope she has fun!
