Sopranos Finale

anyone else out there left feeling like David Chase whacked the audience?   Undecided

I guess the ending could mean that Tony finally did take a hit - Bobby Bacala told him that you never see or hear that final shot....

or it could just be the provision of an open ending that will lead to a movie.   Chase is letting us decide the ending.  Life goes on - or does it?

Either way, I feel pretty damned ripped off. I needed closure!  Angry

Ripped off.... that about sums it up.  It ruined the entire series... I feel like the writers were sitting there laughing their asses off at us (the audience)

For some reason I never got on the Soprano's bandwagon in all these years. So, I feel lucky to not be feeling pissed about the way they finished it.

I think that's the key to it right there. We were seeing the end through Tony's eyes and the last thing he saw was Meadow walking through the door. He never saw or heard it coming...it just went to black.

Did you notice the last song was Journey's "Don't Stop Believing" and the B-side on the jukebox for that song was "Anyway You Want It" and I thought that was kinda cool.

I'm also hearing the DVD that will eventually be released will have multiple endings so you can end it however you want.

It didn't suprise me, that series had so many loose threads you could knit a sweater.   I think Chase was trying to be profound but if I wanted pointless, dead-end stories I would just watch my life rather than watch TV.   I did hear they are planning a movie.

I dont watch the show, but Wifey said the finale sucked.

She also said that Gandolfini has said he will not do this job again.  I guess he works so hard it completely burnt him out, and he is extremely happy it is over.

JDH, yes, that's the popular speculation over on the HBO website this morning - that Meadow's smiling pretty face was the last thing Tony saw.

OR it could just be that life for the family goes on - nothing much new to report other than we just don't get to be voyeurs anymore.  Like I said, Chase whacked US.

I've also heard about the 3 different endings - for a hundred bucks.  I think Fubar's right - the writers ARE laughing.  All the way to the bank.  Roll Eyes

At this point, I don't think there's enough left for a movie.  Think of all the main guys that are gone.  Christophuh, Adrianna, Bobby, Jonny Sac, Phil Leotardo, Ralph Ciffaretti, Richie & Jackie Aprile...for all we know Sylvio's not going to recover.  Junior's a carrot.  That leaves Tony and Paulie and Paulie doesn't have the walnuts to be Tony's right hand.  AJ certainly won't ever be up to the task.  Melfi fired Tony.  Meadow's going to marry the Parisi kid and live happily ever after while her brother becomes a cokehead LA producer.  Carmela will continue with her real estate deals.

Wait a minute...maybe we DID get closure!

p.s.  I still think James Gandolfini is hot.

Margi,

I agree & I felt ripped off by the ending.

I did get the feeling that Tony did get wacked and Meadows face was the last thing Tony saw.  At least thats my take on it.

It felt terrible at the time. Damn, they made me nervous while Meadow is parking that car. I follow though what you kids say here.

A couple of critics, CNN and perhaps another, point out that several customers in the diner were involved in some hits on the Sopranos. He said in the credits are Phil's relatives, somebody that shot Chris way back when and some other homicidal types.

Not to worry about a movie. It'll come...way too much money to be made on this thing. They even left room for Sil (God I love Sil) to maybe re-appear, perhaps. Of course they can always use flashbacks for the dear departeds. It would be nice to have Junior around. He was a classic at the beginning.

Joe thought the finale sucked.

My question - what were they doing in a diner?   I don't ever remember them being in a diner or being happy together at a meal.

Charlotte, I think that's Chase's way of trying to make them seem a normal family.  Remember that rainy night when Tony took them all to Vesuvio and, even though Arte was closed, he let them in and that show ended with them quietly eating together as a family.

I think Carmela had heard that this diner was good food and she wanted them to try it.

Charlie, I too though Stugots (Italian for 'testicles') would be involved....maybe Tony would get the fam and go for a three hour tour...a big storm would hit and they'd end up finding Gilligan and the crew.  AJ could hang with the Professor and figure out a way to make coconut bombs, Ginger could teach Meadow how to dress like a movie star, Carmela could teach Maryann her ziti recipe and Tony and the Skipper could....well, you get the idea.  I think that would have been a better ending.

Well I guess I'm one of the few who LOVED it...it was totally David Chase....leaving you wanting more....I couldn't think of a beter ending did anyone really want to see Tony or any part of his family (even AJ) die?  I didn't....so cudos to Chase, I think he put a feeling out there prior the finale to make sure EVERYONE tuned in....and in the end, all you want is more Sopranos, am I right? and he guaranteed there is at least that possiblity....so I for one LOVED IT because there was nothing final about the finale.... ok, good point, April.  He did definitely leave us wanting more.  So what's YOUR gut feel...do you think Tony was killed?  Or do you think life goes on and we're just not invited anymore?

oooh, check this out!  Smiley  Agent Harris spills the beans!!

http://abcnews.go.com/WN/story?id=3267872&page=1

They DID film a little further after Mead sat down at the table!  YAY!!  Tony's ALIVE!!

Just like the Journey song playing 'Don't Stop Believing' says.....'it will go on and on and on and on....'

OK, I feel better now.  I'm going to let my little pea brain believe this and just go shut up about it!

p.s.  665/1000 vote on the poll in this article that Tony lives.  Wink

p.p.s.  I'm pretty sure Sil pulls through, Charlie - he's one of my faves too.  They just can't kill him.  But when they say that the cat in the last episode is Adriana reincarnated because it keeps staring at the picture of Christophuh, yeah, I do kinda shake my head.   Undecided
