Oh man.....we bought a new all in one (printer/scanner/copier) the other day and ended up gettin the cheaper one cuz it said it was compatible with my windows XP and universal. It's a Lexmark 1200 all in one......we weren't GOIN FOR CHEAP but the phone co guy had told me alot of the more expensive devices are just as volnerable and not worth the money when it comes to lightening or whatever.....(we have went thru SEVERAL cordless phones and other devices even with surge protectors and gave up buyin the more expensive ones). So we checked this other printer thing out good and bought it verses the all in one HP. (I have a Gateway computer) I need it for my paperwork and pics and stuff with my kennel business and keep a book with all my new litters pics under each mom's files too) Anyway.......this new one won't install !!!!!!!! Got a message saying it was not tested and not totally compatible with my system and mite disable it or ruin it or let virus's thru....then it asked if I wanted to try anyhow ? It strongly advised I NOT install it. So do I take it back ???? I don't want to wreck my entire system but tryin to install this crap is a mental challenge for me BIG TIME. Frustration flustration Pam

Any advice is so much appreciated !!! I really needed to get sum pics printed by tomarrow for sumone and paperwork dam it !!!!!!

This is a brand new printer that you just got at the store?

I would think certainly this printer would work fine with windows XP.....although you should make sure you have the service packs and all the update stuff from microsoft.  Then, either the Lexmark website, the microsoft website or another website would have the driver if the CD they sent you is messed up.

If you even do a search for "Lexmark 1200 driver" into google, you could prolly get a good driver for it.

Yeah it is brand new. But my WINDOWS system has a big warning box that comes up saying this printer was NOT tested on THIS SYSTEM and may disable my system or ruin it and strongly advised I NOT INSTALL IT. So not sure I can change that......can I ?? I can't even get the cd to run.......it says on the info sheet to X out of 'install new hardware' way of installin it and do it thru the disk. So I TRIED other ways and goin THAT ROUTE thru installin new hardware ect ect and checked 'have disk' but it won't install and that window pops up again from microsoft saying it has NOT been tested to run with this system and it may destroy it ?? With how things go around here with electronics I BELIEVE IT. So I am totally stumped what to do. My systems only advice goin thru troubleshooting whatever isn't working it says to try or helping and it keeps tellin me NOT TO INSTALL !!! It's a BIG BOX that somes up and explains it is NOT a system they have worked with on my system and goes on and on about how damageing it COULD BE. Grrrrrrrr......Thanks......sorry to be so complicated Pam

Can you not return it to the store that you bought it in?  That seems to be the easiest solution-return it and get one that is compatable with your computer.

I got it working........but I think I pulled alot of hair out in the process !! Good grief. Anyhow.....it says on the box that it IS compatible with windows XP.....says it in the paperwork stuff too and the web site. I kept getting a big box saying it wasn't when tryin to install it and the cd wasn't working proplerly cuz I could not HIT continue cuz it was not highlighted in a next step. Then that dam huge box would show up from microsoft saying this printer all in one device had NOT been tested on windows XP and would possibly damage my computer and cause it to be unstable. So I read sum info off the printers web site and just went ahead with the process in TWO ways. One was ADD a printer and other was tryin to complete the cd installation. Once I got sumthing checked for my system to search for the files to install it it seem'd to all come together ??? I still got the warning box about 5 more times and X'd it out. And fineally 'TA-DA' it was working. Do ya's all think I did ok doin it that way ? I don't want to crash my computer....but so far so good and I got my paperwork printed out and sum stuff scann'd and copied !!!!!!!! I am a happy scanner Pam

Thanks for the input........hope ya all didn't mind ?????? If so.....I'm sorry but I jus didn't know what to do. On the box and in the paperwork for the printer deal it says DO NOT RETURN TO RETAILER !!!??? But so far it's workin ok.............shew !!!!! One less stupid worry.

Sorry I didn't get here sooner.

I have gotten those messages too.  If it is a reputable company (like Lexmark) and it says it is compatible, I tell it to go ahead and install it anyhow.

Ole Billy Gates is just being over protective of his iffy software.

Glad ya got it working!

Glad you got in installed okay.
