Everyone has stories of great doctors. My local neuro had to be sent by the angels to help me survive, He treated me for the first few years without insurance and did not charge me 1 dime. I never recieved a bill from him even after he admitted me into the hospitals for DHE infusions. He has supplied me with free Imitrex injections ever since they came out. I can get ahold of him at anytime, night or day. His nurses used to personally deliver free Trex to my home. They even offered hot plate lunches (free) for my son and I delievered. I could go on and on about how him and his staff has went 'above and beyond' to help me out and show that they cared. They saved me and they are stiill keeping me alive. I want to show him my appreciation somehow, without a lot of money. I thought about flowers for his office delieverd, or maybe balloons, maybe a personalized plaque of some kind. ?? I need some input. What would be nice, thoughtful, and appropriate to show my appreciation. any ideas? I wish that CH.com or OUCH had some kind of an award for doctors and/or nurses that go out of their way to help us clusterheads. ( Even if it were like a paper certificate that I could have framed) Help me do something nice for this wonderful doc and his staff. Thanks UNsolved

Personally, I think a plaque or certificate stating how great a doctor he is would be very special.

Hello: I wish you could clone this Dr., but I really like Tony's idea. It is in keeping with the humanity shown by this doctor and staff. Wishing you PF days and nights, Ray

Flowers and balloons are nice but they dont last too long. One of my walls adorns framed letters, photos and cards from my patients. The ones I really like are those with a personal message and my favourites are the hand drawn cards by the kids. These things I will cherish and will be proud to show my kids, my grandkids ... Each one tells the story of a special patient ... I appreciate anything and everything from my patients but personally to me a plague or a certificate is too ... " sterile" ! Its always the personal touch that makes it super special. My hat off to your doc too Micheal, he sounds like a great man. Annette PS: Sponsoring a child in his name is wonderful but its costly, its between $30 to $50 a month and on going. Once you sponsor a child you should try to do it for at least a couple of years or so to give that child stability.

Handwritten, heartfelt, detailed thank you note letting him know how he and his staff have changed your life and the life of your family. There is nothing better than a well thought out piece of correspondence that obviously has been generated out of sincere thankfulness. Just my opinion. Scott

That's a good point, Don - acknowledging him here will send him some more business, too. I'm not sure how it works in the states but, here in Canada, we could write a letter of commendation to the governing body (in our case - the Alberta Medical Association) and tell them what a great job a doctor is doing. They, in turn, send the letter on to him and, of course, a copy goes into his file that is routinely perused by the review board....just a thought.

Scott and Don and all have very good ideas. When my bestest ever head doc retired I gave him a copy of an old Neuro book written by a JM Charcot that was part of my collection. (I am a book freak). That and a nice hand printed note seemed to overwhelm him. My books are already packed, but if you wait until I get moved I will see if I have anything else suitable and pass it along to you. Hope that you and yours are great my friend .....Tim

There are some very good ideas here. As far as the plaque or certificate, if you want to do that, I would think that if you put a request in to O.U.C.H., they would be willing to generate one, with the O.U.C.H. name and logo, and send it out. Or so I would think they would. You can do multiple things. Choose the one, or ones, you want to do. Chuck

I understand how you feel Michael. For ten years now I have sent my lawyer a card with gift certificate and written thanks in many different ways for him getting me into recovery and doing a miraculous job when it looked like the end. I agree though with Chuck and recognition from the world of clusterheads. on May 29th, 2007, 11:51am, ClusterChuck wrote:As far as the plaque or certificate, if you want to do that, I would think that if you put a request in to O.U.C.H., they would be willing to generate one, with the O.U.C.H. name and logo, and send it out. Lots of great ideas ! I knew you guys would come through for me. Thanks everyone !! I liked the idea of an O.U.C.H. plaque or award. I would want it to say more than just the name and logo. Maybe there should be a plaque or award made up that can be given out to deserving doctors as they become known to us for their outstanding services. I would also write a handwritten letter of thanks to my neuro and his staff. I just learned that my neuro still occasional makes house calls to his elderly and most ill patients. That is unheard of now-a-days ! This docs name --> Dr. Joseph Seipel - Founder of NeuroCare of Southern Indiana & director of the Sleep Lab @ Floyd Memorial Hsopital, New Albany, IN. So, Can we come up with a generalized plaque or award from OUCH to outstanding doctors ?? Mike ?? Helen ?? What would I have to do ?? Thanks All - Help me thank this deserving doctor for all his help !! PF Wishes UNsolved Once I was in the hospital and I woke up with a monster. I pushed the call button and waiting what seemed like forever. It was taking too long and the pain was still increasing. I gave myself an imitrex innjection. The nurse finally came in about 5 minutes after the jab. She was irrate that I had self-medicated. She yelled and yelled and said she would have me kicked out and that she was calling my doctor 'right now'. ...... Well...she came back in a few minutes later with her tail between her legs apologizing over and over. I don't know what my doctor said to her, but it set her straight and I never had a problem with her again !! LOL ...that was too cool.

Just an idea: Make sure his office has the url of this thread and that they open it. Doctors themselves don't have a lot of time but if his office tells him of this, he's likely to look it up. Probably some edits are due but I think they'd like it. Charlie

How about a nice Rockwell print. He can display that in his office.
