I saw my Neurologist today!

What an not a very nice person! The first thing he told me was no o2 because CH is common in males and not females. And then he told me that since migraines are a lot more common in young females why don't we try some migraine medicine first. I kept waiting for him to start tapping me on the head and say "You silly little female, you can't have CH since you don't have a penis". He has no idea how close he got to being smacked! I did get him to reluctantly approve trying o2 in 6 weeks if this stuff he prescribed doesn't help. Anyway, he gave me Imitrex, Relpax, and Axert to try at onset and also Nortriptyline to take an hour before bedtime to decrease the number of headaches in the long run. Since I know that Imitrexa and triptans in general worked for a lot of you, I'll give it a shot and hope it works. I will start looking for a different neurologist. Somewhere in Des Moines, Iowa, there should be a doctor that's up to date on headaches and the fact that CH doesn't affect only men!

There are things you can print out and take to him showing the male/female ratios...we even changed the WebMD definition to remove that statistic....either stay on him or find a new neuro!

Just curious how far you buried your foot up his a ss and how long it took the medics to pry it out. What a fuck head of a neuro.

| Screw him. You don't need anyone to approve O2. Geeks here know how to get the stuff. From what you wrote, anybody would be a better doctor. Hope you find a new one soon. Maybe your PCP/GP can get you a presciption for O2

Find a new neuro -- this one is a LOST cause. He's about 50 years behind the times and don't want to learn nuthin' new. Next one INTERVIEW HIM! Find out what he knows and what he's willing to LEARN. He's just practicing but you are PAYING! Make him work for his money! Get some Red Bull and try that at the onset of the CH - sometimes that will abort a hit. And get on melatonin at night - it helps a lot of us. Maybe those two things will do you some good in the meantime (while you're looking for a new doc). Some of the others will be along to tell you how to get some O2 without this quack. Hugs BD

This man is a friggin idiot. I love how these dumbass doctors will readily give out/prescribe expensive meds that could screw up your whole life (or end it) with their side effects, but they balk at something that is cheap and has few to no side effects. Did he bother to mention that you shouldn't take different triptans within 24 hours of each other? The bad thing is that if she walks away, as she should do, this moron will continue to treat females this way. Dude needs an education before he causes anyone else more pain.

What Gator said. As if 02 only worked on a males cluster headaches. Lejla, please find someone else. You don't have to have a Neurologist write you a precription for 02. Any Doctor with an MD after his name can do that. As far as welding 02 goes...try e-bay for a tank and a regulator. You can sometimes find a very good price oin them there. Then all you have to do is go to a welders 02 supplier, have it filled and you are good to go. Warning however: Do NOT tell the weldering supply place you are using it for Medical purposes. Tell them for instance... that you are starting a hydroponics garden. They probably won't ask though.

| GAWD this pisses me off!!! It is OK to give you Imitrex, etc, that has SO many possible side effects, and only RELUCTANTLY approved oxygen? And ONLY after six weeks? Pardon my language, but this fucking a$$hole needs his nuts ripped off, and then shoved in his eyeball, and then set on fire, and then driven into his eye socket, with a railroad spike. Then ask him if he likes the way THAT felt! Grrrrrrr!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Chuck

It really made me mad how he acted like I was being unreasonable and he even laughed when I said I was diagnosed with CH. Did I mention I never set up a follow up appointment with him...??

| I read the information on the meds he gave me and heart problems are a common side effect. I told him that I have a history of heart problems in my family and he just brushed it off because I'm young and not overweight. How stupid is that? He really shouldn't be practicing medicine at all.

| I'm so worried I'd screw this up if I do it on my own. It will be my only option though unless my regular doctor decides to prescribe it. I didn't even ask him about it since I thought that neuros are the ones that do that. Thanks Linda!
