A San Diego Pic!

Batch was in town with his beautiful wife for an F-8 squadron reunion. Margo brought one of our youngest CH'ers, Dawson, and Guiseppi snuck out of work so we could meet for lunch! The group pic didn't print so all you get is the hairy, good lucking guy Batch, the munchkin, my hero, Dawson, and the ugly guy in uniform, Guiseppi!

Great pic Joe..but you should have turned a little side-ways so every one could see that brand new stripe on your sleeve. So glad Batch is home even if it's only for a little while.

It is hard to see detail in that pic ... the sun's glare off the chrome dome of the guy in the white shirt is too bright ... I am glad you got pictures of the old goat .. I sure forgot to get pictures of him, and his lovely wife!!! Chuck

Darn Joe you're fast. Don't you do any work!! It was great seeing you again and meeting Batch and his very lovely wife. While sitting there Dawson tried his hand at picture taking. Here are a few that he took. And lastly a couple of his self portraits!

What a hoot meeting up with Joe, Margo, and young Master Dawson. After we bid each other a fond fair well, two sumo recruiters chased me down the street halfway to the airport...

Here's my contribution to the photo op here in San Diego... Again, What a Hoot? The Three Amigos Me and the F-9F Panther Home away from home... USS Midway CV-41 I'd need to check my log book to be sure but I've got over 300 arrested landings on her when she was home ported and steaming out of Japan

Home safe and sound... Well... I am missing a few more brain cells... Butt Shots!!! Bab's, YGBSM!!! 35 years ago they would have been magnificent... However, at an average age of 65... A butt shot from this gathering would be ugly... Have attached four more photo's... The first two show the whole reason we gather every year... The F-8 Crusader, and fighter we all loved to fly so much... This bird is perched on the starboard catapult on USS Midway in San Diego. The USS Midway is now a National Museum and was honored Wednesday May 11, with the nation's highest award for historic preservation presented by Laura Bush... She looks better today than when I sailed on her '76-'79. The third photo shows a close up of the classic VF-111 "Sundowner" paint job on the nose and intake. The three pilots whose names are painted on the aircraft, were lost to SAMs and AAA in the skies over Hanoi in the first few weeks of the war in Viet Nam. The last photo of three squadron mates left to right are "Hot Dog" Brown, Carry "Carnac" Carson, and me "Batch" standing next to the bird. I'd not seen Carnac in 35 years... Hope all are doing and feeling well... Take Care. V/R, Batch

F-8 Gunfighters ?? That stirs an old memory. Met some guys years ago from an F8 squadron - must have been early 1971, VF-111 rings a bell. They were heading back fom Subic Bay to Florida - USS Shangri La - CV-38? I remember those guys waxed eloquent about the Crusader - bit critical of everything else. Seem to remember also they were keen to get back before their boat finally fell to pieces! 300 arrested landings? Makes you a triple centurion then, if I recall correctly. Damn that was a long time ago. Cheers Frank
