Are you a fast healer?

I can't remember this ever being brought up here before but I have a question... On Tuesday, Mike dropped a full 4' x 8' sheet of plywood on his left big toe. He was just wearing runners, not steel toes as he should have been. Needless to say, this caused him a wee bit of pain. After considerable hopping around, exercising some pretty creative vocabulary and ultimately having to unbutton his pants because he was hyperventilating (sorry, but LOL a lil bit ), he put his trusty ice bag on his poor toe to calm the throbbing that would last through the rest of the night. By the time I got home from work, a bruise was forming. Exactly 3/8" wide right at the base of the toenail and the nail itself was quite a technicolour display by now. Mike was limping pretty bad and I figured he would be hobbling for the week. Yesterday morning, the nail colours had intensified and the bruise is still pretty red. However....and my question IS coming, I promise ....by the end of day yesterday, the bruise is almost gone, the nail is deep blue but not as angry looking, he's not limping at all. What does a sheet of plywood weigh? Maybe 50 pounds, right? For the normal person, this would be an injury that lasts a long while I would think - might even be a justifiable WCB claim. Not for my Michael. This guy has amazing healing powers. He is a finishing carpenter by trade, so he is always coming home bruised or bleeding. But his owies heal faster than anyone I know. Lessee....let's just list the emergency room trips and the recovery times. 1. 400 pound steel girder fell on his head, fracturing T3 vertebrae. 29 stitches, drain and bandages. Back to work in a week. 2. Ran the table saw vertically through to his first knuckle on his finger. Back to work in 2 days. 3. Nearly severed thumb from an Olfa knife, 15 stitches. Back to work in 1 day. 4. Severely cut foot from broken glass, stitches. Only missed work for the time to get stitches. In all cases stitches healed within a few days, not the normal 10 days and he was taking them out himself. Like, should I be calling the Guiness people about him or is this common for a clusterhead to have extraordinaly quick healing times? Does God feel sorry for you guys that He puts you through clusters so he cuts you some slack on the 'everyday' owies or what? Anyone else like this? (I mean quick healer, not the klutz aspect here ). Is this a clusterhead thing or just a Mike thing? Thanks folks.

Some people heal faster than others. . . I had a hysterectomy and was back to work in two weeks. . . . doctor told me I had to take off a minimum of 6 weeks - sheesh. And I'm the supporter, not the sufferer.

Ok well that blows THAT little theory of mine all to hell then, doesn't it? LOL p.s. to Yorky, my boy is an accident looking for a place to happen. He has always just crashed through life. You're right about the pain threshold though - through all of these things that he's done to himself, they are honestly no big deal to him.

It's a Mike thing. I've got a bruise from 1997 that still hasn't faded completely. I do have the high pain threshold, though. Which is good, because apparently being a total klutz (or spaz as my hubby likes to call it), is something I have in common with Mike.

I think Mike healing time is wonderful! I am total clumsy, I get hurt pretty often but I also notice that I can handle fairly amount of pain (maybe CH make you tough) My daughter was playing once soccer with me, she was wearing tennis shoes and I was wearing sandals duh!) she kicked the ball but she missed and kicked me instead, well I jumped and fuss a little bit but that was it, my toe turned black and a week later my Doc cousin came to town to visit and my husband asked me to show her my toe, she said that it was broken! a whole week later and I had been walking on it like nothing!

I have always been a fast healer like that. I had wisdom teeth pulled at 2 in the afternoon and was working at 10 that night. A lot of people I knew of were out for at least a day or two for the same operation. I took the end of a finger off on a router table. I can't even tell which finger I hit now. I split a fingertip in two across the nail. Healed quickly and never even went to the doctor. Had pneumonia. Doctor wanted to put me in the hospital. I asked her what could they do for me in the hospital that I couldn't do for myself at home. After a bit of a protest, she had to admit that as long as I stayed in bed and took my meds, there was no real reason to go into the hospital. Was back to work in a week. I know people who went into the hospital for pneumonia that were out of work for 3 to 6 weeks. Lots more stuff like that. Hey, everyone is right. It IS a "Mike" thing. LOL Mike

LOL jeez, Bob, even I'd forgotten that one. No, that was my boy. That one wasn't an ER trip though, no blood shed, just a helluva good goose egg (that was gone within 24 hours). I think he thought he could fly or something, he was playing with the dog and she was getting ahead of him so he decided to skip that last couple of stairs and, for a reason known only to my groom, he decided he needed to vault UPWARDS to accomplish this. CRACK - right across the forehead with the crosspiece of the stairwell. Smashed the glass of water he was carrying. Yeah, sounded REAL good from the kitchen - I ran to see what happened and forbid my then 8 year old daughter from looking because I was sure we'd see him in pieces at the bottom of the stairs - I just told her to call 911. Fortunately by then, she knew Mike well enough and thought she'd wait a few seconds before she made the call. LOL smart kid! Yes, I remember you did bounce back really quickly from your surgery Bob. So maybe you and "the Mikes" are the only super-healers in the crowd, huh?

I don't think I have any place in this thread given my recent little adventures BUT!! Jasper is an amazing "healer" he fell offthe slide at school on Monday and scraped his nose really badly, it was swollen and bright red on the end from a quite nasty graze as he landed face down on the astroturf. He looked like a hoo from hooville (the Grinch!) Today there isn't a mark on him and his nose isn't even swollen anymore so I think he is a Mike in the making! He is a terrible daredevil too and we've had more than our fair share of visits to A&E wth him

Daniel is a really fast healer too especially when it comes to cutting himself. He is forever tinkering with power tools and he has cut, chopped, banged, burnt, whipped ( Yeah ! Dont ask ! ) ripped himself open in all places and for all sizes of wounds. Mostly he doesnt even need to be stitched up, he would just put a bandaid on them and carry on. They would heal within a day or so instead of 5-7 days. He doesnt scar either. Once he burnt the whole back of his right hand badly, some bits of it was 3rd degree, I thought it would give him a nasty scar but no, all he got from it is a tiny scar that looks more like a pimple than a scar. Being medical, I can judge quite well how bad certain wounds are and how long it would usually take to heal, and I was amazed at how quickly he heals from injuries. At first I used to yell at him for not taking care of these wounds properly, but now I am so used to it I tend to leave him well alone. Dont know whether its a CH thing or not though. Annette

3 open heart surgeries in 11 days, I was out of there 7 days later. 100% Renal failure 4 days after that. Left the hosp. again a week later. Complete hip replacement. I was on my feet the next day. Walked up one flight of stairs and through my front door 4 days later. Thats a short list. I do seem to heal much faster than they expect. Only one other person has had more major procedures in a 30 day period at the Portland VA Hosp.than me. He can keep the trophy.

I'm a fast healer, fractured my wrist last summer and cast off in less than 4 weeks, my GP said the Prednisone I was taking would be good for the fracture, any idea's on that? Just had the Shingles and with meds they cleared up in 1 week and back to work. Hmmmmmm! Maybe we do heal quicker, but also maybe it is the meds also. Margi, tell Mike to be a little more careful, ok! Barry
