Back from the ER....again!

I got a CT scan and X-rays.....was supposed to have the CT scan on Wednesday. Right now it shows that I have a pretty large cyst on my ovary. However, I'm still in a little quite a bit of pain...I think it's my ulcer. It's in the upper stomach. So, I have to give my gynecologist a call tomorrow and maybe get a couple other tests done regarding the cyst. Thanks for all of the love (the thread about "One of Us Needs Some Love". I really appreciate it! I just want the pain in my stomach (upper and lower) to go away....what is wrong with me!? It's frustrating and scary....I'm only 25! Everyone take care!

Hello Kimmy Sorry to hear you have other pain to deal with on top of CH. Ulcer pain and ovarian cyst pain can be pretty bad. However, they are easy enough to deal with and not particularly serious. The fact that the ovarian cyst is large is a good news because firstly its not malignant and secondly its actually easier to be removed. Stomach ulcers can heal really well with the right medication and diet, so dont you worry too much. Rest well and take care of yourself. Hugs and prayers and lots of love coming over. Annette

I developed an ulcer from Vioxx and was prescribed a medication that cleared it up in no time......without any special diet. It's painful but easy to fix. So, don't worry about an ulcer. The cyst is very, very painful. If an operation is suggested, get a second opinion. My daughter had pain and the second opinion was that she didn't have an enlarged ovary.....but was just ovulating. She did have a cyst, but it burst........and didn't cause any threat to health.

With ovarian cyst, whether it needs to be operated on or not depends on a few things, how big it is, is it a complex cyst or a simple cyst, is it heamorhaging, is it pressing on anything else, is it likely to twist etc. There usually is at least 1 follow up ultrasound to monitor it before the decision to operate is made. If the specialist recommends surgery, ask why and how urgently and you should be clear as to the appropriate reason for it. Some cysts need to be operated on urgently especially a very large pedunculated one ( one with a "stalk" as the risk of twisting ( strangulation ) is high. If one like that is not removed quickly and it twists on itself, its an emergency as it can burst and it can cut off blood supply to your ovary and the ovary will be permanently damaged or dead. My point is, always be clear of the reasons, the pros and cons and the degree of urgency for any treatment, especially surgery, but sometimes one does not have time to get a second opinion. All the best. Annette

Anette.........that is exactly the kind of defination that we need. While I understand that as a doctor you cannot diagnose via internet, the reasons for second opinions, etc. are extremely valuable. Thank you very much for your input. It is of utmost importance. I enjoy your posts and am happy that you are a part of this dysfunctional family. LOL.

Oh Kimmie I'm so sorry to hear all of this. Get your doc to prescribe some meds for that ulcer, they'll stop the pain PDQ so that'll be one less thing to deal with and I can only reiterate what everyone else says. Keep battling, you'll get there! Helen xxx

Thanks everyone! I am already on meds for the ulcer, I've been on Aciphex for the past 2 months or so, which has helped some, but I still get pretty bad stomach aches sometimes, like the one yesterday (constant burning pain in between my breast bone and belly button). The ER doctor prescribed Lortab, which turns out to make me nauseous, so I'm not taking that anymore. I'm calling my gynecologist today about the cyst and I'm not sure what I'm going to do about the other stomach pain, which I think is related to the ulcer. Also, I was hoping that the CT scan would show something which might explain why I have overactive bladder at the age of 25. I'm also on Enablex for that. So, it's all just so complicated! Anyhow, thanks to everybody for the well wishes. I have to start getting ready for work now. Take care!

I still have the CT scan on Wednesday. The one they did last night was just of my kidneys. So, I have a gynecologist appt. on Wednesday and the other CT scan (of my abdomen and pelvis with contrast) on Wednesday as well. I have also decided that my wedding money is going to have to pay for all of these tests and that Brian and I are going to have to get married at the courthouse, I have no other choice. I have insurance, but I have to pay my $350 deductible and then 20% of all tests, etc. after that. And so far I've had one CT scan and X-rays. So, I'm pretty bummed!

No matter - what's important is that he wants to be your husband and you want to be his wife. It'll make for more interesting stories as you grow old together! Get better soon, girl. We don't like seeing you like this.
