There's a post about Prednisone below that prompted me to share this with you..... Only because I am a Cardiac Monitor Tech would I know this, but during my recent stay in the hospital. my nurse brought in my morning-after-the-pacer implant medications. She said "here's your HCTZ, your Metoprolol and your Amioderone". I said I was put on Rhythmol and its' generic name is not Amioderone. She said all the rhythm meds were Amioderone. I knew that this wasn't true so I told her that I would wait for my doc to explaine to me before I take it. It turns out that I was right. Here is a cardiac nurse who's education was lacking and it could have been a bad thing for me. It sounds like a Pharmacy mistake, but the nurses need updating on the newer drugs too. I will never again go into a hospital without knowing exactly what my doc has prescribed, what its' generic name is and what doseage. I hope none of you will either....please. My doc was proud of me for being proactive, so don't be shy. Polite helps, too.

i'm kinda pissed 'cause i was simply handed a prescription slip and told to get it filled. i knew it was for adderall, i know adderall is for ADD, which i also know i have. on the prescription slip it said "one a day, so-and-so mg" i didn't know what drugs i could take with it. i didn't wheather i could drive, i didn't when i should take it, and i certainly didn't know i would sit like a zombie on the couch at work for 8 hours and not move at all, not speak to anyone, and not eat for 13 hours, and not even notice it. poo on that pharmasict. poo. on. him.

Sheesh! I'm glad you caught the error. Chalk another one up for the clusterhead side. Just goes to prove one more time that you really can't just put your care in someone else's hands and then forget about it. Newbies need to know - old timers need reminded once in a while. This is why we preach to research your condition and your treatments and to discuss medications and interactions with both your doctor and your pharmacist. You need to know what the drug is, what it is supposed to do, what it is NOT supposed to do, how long will it take to take effect, what are the possible side effects and what drug interactions are possible. I'm really happy that you practice what you and all of us here preach! Mike

| what Gator said . You are what 19? Shame on that pharmacist for not telling you exactly what you should and should not do BUT, you are an adult now. It is up to you as it is up to all of us ....TO ASK QUESTIONS. To be our own advocate. To ask the why's and wherfores and hows and also the "what about this" questions.
