In the summer, we sit on our deck, and there'll be 5 or 6 at one time flying right around us.

Nice shot, Jen. Does it seem like there are more hummingbirds around now than when we were kids? Maybe our folks didn't know how to attract them.

Here there is a pond about 30 paces from the door, and yesterday a swarm of frogs began croking, and a pair of malards came to land. 3 days ago a pair of wood ducks came to land in the stream on the other side of this property. I prefer this to the Moose who frequent the door yard over winter...

Nice pic Jen. Hummingbirds show up here at the start of May. I have around half dozen feeders that I put out. I love watching them. Beth

Don't you just love 'em, Jen? We get a lot, too. It's fun to watch them fight over the feeders, or do that (what I think is) mating thing... flying way up high and swooping down really fast. I have one that will hover in front of my face if his feeder needs refilling. Mac...I'm jealous. I've never seen a moose outside of a zoo.

Real nice shot Jen. I love hummingbirds! We get them up at the cabin all summer long and have a feeder right by the kitchen window. It is amazing that they fly all the way to the Carribian for winter. -P.

Uh oh, perhaps this is just humming birds... I have one quite dead somewhere in my stored items.. Someone I know that I don't like so well for many reasons, and this is one, owns a barn with a sealed skylite. Humming birds enter, fly to the light, and drop dead very quickly. I have offered all sorts of solutions, and he just doesn't care... This sky lite can be opened, but he won't, it could be covered and or painted but he won't. I added this bit so maybe if you have a like barn you will see to it these little birds can get out thru the light.. I too feed birds of all kinds to include humming birds. I am sorry to be OT but i think maybe it should be brought up in the sugar food topic... Since it is likely folks who feed humming birds, also are interesed in flowers, I am interesting in long range terms on honey bee's. All I would want to know is if you notice that they are GONE... I sure hope not.

I accidentally put up a combination hummingbird/cat feeder. The hummingbird feeder was hanging in a tree next to my porch swing....where my cat would sit quietly waiting for the humming brids to feed. One more example of the impassable chasm between men and women.......my wife SO didn't see the humor!!! I moved it... Guiseppi

Hummers haven't started showing up here yet. Soon, though. Sorry Jen--I can't remember where you all live, but the one in your photo appears to be either a ruby-throat, or the ruby-throat's western counterpart--a black-chinned hummingbird. We commonly get three species here--black-chins, calliope hummingbirds, and rufous hummingbirds. A few others that are just passing through, but we don't see them often. I understand that, with the exception of some endangered varieties, that there are actually as many hummers around as there have ever been. It's a good thing to know--I love seeing the little warriors. Best, George

That is a wonderful shot ! I love birds. We have two humming bird feeders here. We were sitting on the deck and one came between Buddy and me stopped in mid air looked at him then looked at me as if to ask if he/she could drink from ours. Today we had a squirel that got in our bird feeder, this blue jay would wait till he got on it then dive down and knock him right off the feeder. Buddy and I watched over coffee this morning. It was so funny. The squirel kept going back, finally the squirel relised he had dumped half the seeds on the ground.
