Trolls crave attention and don't care if it’s positive or negative - it’s a game. Trolls enjoy conflict, and consider themselves the winner when they attract the most attention. Trolls want to force a strong reaction and feel rewarded when they create altercations that draw in many members of an online community. When you argue - the troll wins. When you attempt to reason - the troll wins. We attempt to help others when it appears they are having a difficult time and offer some latitude for venting frustrations. But trolls don’t hide their true intentions long – if they’re not forcing all the attention towards themselves they’re not winning the game. Simply avoid responding to posts from users when it becomes apparent they are trolls. Responding may make you feel better but any response gives trolls exactly what they want. The best way to deal with trolls is to ignore them. In response trolls may begin replying to threads with what appears to be rational/meaningful dialog or apologies for previous behavior. Its part of the game – appear to be attempting to fit in, only to crate new conflict that involves other members of an online community. The best way to loose a troll is to deny them the attention they crave. Tom

Would the owner of the propane torch, egg beater, pipe expander and vise grips please claim these items. They're lodged in my head and I need the space.

But then what would we all do with our sharp troll poking sticks? I upgraded to the "new and improved" model just last week.

Yeah, I've always heard that ignoring a troll is the thing to do. Don't feed the trolls. But honestly--have you ever seen one leave without being given the heave-ho? (After a good drubbing of course.) The worst of them will just respond to being ignored by becoming so insufferably egregious that inevitably someone will respond in anger, and...so it goes. Not that this one is one of the worst... He's pretty small. I think he's just a baby troll. Best, George

Ah! The foreigners put on such airs Wearing the tangerine suits And their harlequin eyes. The pain they inspire Draws in harmonica melodies And the feathers of birds Which flame up at their touch. It all comes to light in the sheer Debonair. (Ellen)

Some are not cut and dried decisions on trolll status immediately, as they post in contrary ways to purposely confuse the issue for many, retaining the ability for sympathic posts.
