Went to see a GP at the doc-in-a-box down the street today for my annual (well, more or less) checkup.  Doc goes through the list of questions--any chest pains, weakness in arms or legs, etc....any headaches?

Well, yeah--I get episodic cluster headache, but I'm out of cycle right now.

--Pause--Eyes glaze over.....

Now....he's the doc.  He can't say "what's that?", so he nods and makes a notation on his chart.

Bet he went to look it up after I left.  Tongue

Best,

George

Sounds like my first neurologist.  I walked in with my MRI films and the referral from my GP that said I had cluster headaches.  He looked at it, said excuse me, left the room for what seemed like a long time, then came back with a computer printout of what cluster headaches are.  He conducted the rest of the intake exam from that and then gave it to me at the end of the session along with a prescription for Demerol, Indocin and O2 at 8lpm. No nrb mask, I was given a canula.   I wonder why the O2 didn't work back then? Roll Eyes  No trex, either.   Angry

During my second visit with him, I had an attack in the exam room.  He turned out the lights, left the room and closed the door, leaving me in dark silence (except for my crying, moaning and banging my head on the wall) until the attack was over.

After I wasn't cured by my 3rd visit, he referred me to a neurologist 80 miles away.  I had an attack during my first visit with the new neuro and he immediately handed me a Zomig NS.  About 8 minutes later the pain was gone and I decided right then and there that I was going to go back to Stillwater and punch my old neuro in the mouth for not giving this to me when I was hit in his office.  He's lucky Jane has such a calming effect on me during the 80 mile drive home.

My former GP and his partnering Neurologist initially diagnosed me with Trigeminal Neuralgia, Atypical migraines and get this “possibly never get a clear diagnosis” when two years of their treatment passed by without any relief while they stuffed me with pain killers.

Finally did some research, saw a Neurologist at a headache at my own expense.  He diagnosed CH in the first visit after listening to me, and discussing test results.  He prescribed Lithium and gave me the relief that I had in two years.

Now the best part – went back to my GP who actually got pissed off because I was being successfully treated by another Neurologist.  As I said Former GP and his partnering Neurologist.

Gator..

Im with you on the canula..you don't have to be experienced medically...it's commons sense that alot of air cannot possibly come outof two little holes.

I have stood there with an unopened canula after having oxygen delivered...and thought "What the hell were they thinking?"

Also, having an uncomfortable device in my nose during a hit is unbearable...      Oh well...

Sounds like "Ischemic Unilateral Cephalgia".  I got that once.  I think it means "His head hurts on one side, but I don't know what's causing it."

I always go ready with info from this site.  Otherwise, I get the same glazed over look or "only men get clusterheadaches and they're very, very rare"  Huh.

Sigh...gotta have a sense of humor about it sometimes.
