Bad new......

Well I have been debating on posting this for a little while. Helen and Langa know but that was it. But I need some support right now from my friends here.
I have been diagnosed with prostate cancer. It is the aggressive type but my Urologist thinks it is still contained in the prostate. I am presently trying to get in to see a specialist that excels in a new procedure called the DaVinci Robotic Prostatectomy. There are not too many around. The nearest ones to me are At Vanderbilt in Nashville and Nortons Hospital in Louisville. My Urologist is working on trying to get me in as soon as she can.
I notified Helen that we would be putting our trip to England on hold in June but if I can get in to see this guy in the next few weeks, I hope to still make Richmond. We shall see.
This was a shock to say the least. No symtoms at all. Just a routine check. I feel like someone put a gate across the road I was travelling and opened a gate to a road I have never been down. I have no idea where this road will end but I got to travel it.
I hesitated to post this because we have enough tragedy to deal with on here, but I am at the point of needing prayers and support to get me thru this. And....I feel that I will get thru this. Just have some trying times ahead.
Pray for Ruthie as well. She is handling this worse than me.

Sorry to read of this new challenge in your life. It does amaze me that this problem never reveals itself with symtoms. Hope you are able to get in for this new procedure soon.

My prayers are with you!
Be positive, My family had to go through the same road no too long ago with my grandfather having prostate cancer too. but Thanks God his treatment was succesful and he is cancer free right now.
As long as it has not spread to other organs the better is the prognosis.
Hang in there, be strong and have faith that everything will come around just fine for you.

My father in law had this and the meds worked well for years, and something else got him in the end...

edited to add: I just read about the procedure (http://www.davinciprostatectomy.com/to_dvp.html) and it looks like a great advance over traditional surgery. Glad you're a candidate for it and that the recovery time will be less than normal. You're a tuff guy - you'll be great!

Out of nowhere tested a 6.5 PSA myself three years ago and prior to each of three biopsies in three years, that came back ok, benign prostatic hyperplasia I'm guessing and has been correctable recently. GET CHECKED!
