Everybody gets "charged" or "charges" are levied for everything from letting the hot water run in the mens room to getting stuck in a revolving door. The kids need a session in the woodshed. We are obsessed with legal procedure here. Some poor goof broke a bathroom sink in a local gas station, told the owner and got "charged." Kill me now. The only charge should be for a new sink, not sitting in the clink. Geeze. Try this today: When I was a kid, in small towns like mine, if you got tipsy in a bar and didn't behave too badly, the cops took away your keys but drove you home to your family which in most cases was embarrassing enough. I know this sounds like science fiction now but it happened all the time. Most of the time it worked. Rant over: Charlie

I'm with Chairlie on this one (and I'm older than he is)-- geezz, when the Cheif caught me as a kid, I'd BEG to go to jail - "Just don't tell Daddy!" I KNEW my odds were better in jail! After I was grown, I found out that he and daddy had a good laugh in the mornings at the coffee shop (at my expense). I didn't get away with anything (and I thought I was so smart) and the chief got his supply of beer without buying it. But there were very few kids taken to jail. We didn't have classe in drugs (we still had to do readin', writin' and rithmatic') and we didn't have drug "problems" - we had PEER pressure (peers were agin' it!). No sex ed -- kids took care of that too (we read the dirty parts of Shakespear OUT LOUD to each other during lunch) and we didn't have all the pregnancies and rapes and stuff that goes on today. We didn't have security guards in the schools (nor did we have teacher's aides - didn't need them - teachers took care of the class) and if a kid brought a gun to school, we were all out to admire the new hunting rifle at noon and jealous as the devil cause we didn't have one. But we started each day off with the flag raising and the Pledge of Allegiance and a prayer. I've said before and I'll say it again (old people do that) disipline begins at home and if kids don't get it there they ain't gonna get it at school. Schools are to TEACH not to RAISE kids. But these kids should NOT go to jail because their parents didn't TEACH them acceptable from unacceptable behavior. They just need their butts busted and their parents need to be horswhipped. The school needs to "chill out!" Hugs BD

Where was all this group sex in class and teachers having sex with the students when I was in school? Geez, I feel slighted.

Charlie, I do agree with you that a trip to the woodshed would be the *best* thing for these kids involved, but I'd be willing to bet that the parents of these kids aren't that involved to begin with. While we have gotten a bit *charge happy*, I really think, that in this case, it might actually make a bit more of an impact (especially on the parents). I personally know the sheriff and I don't think he would have charged the kids if there had been any way better to make a real impact here. Did anyone read what they assembly was about (not sure if it mentioned it)? They had an assembly to talk to the students about a stabbing/murder that had just happened, I think it was a 15 year old who had stabbed a 14 year old to death. We're not talking about inner city kids here. This is a rural area.

Having been in law enforcement for 27 years........ The parents have no idea what the hell their kids are doing, they are already contacting attorneys to sue the school district for permitting this, the whole family will receive state funded counseling to help them overcome society's inability to establish sufficient self esteem for the children to overcome shitty parenting....and they'll demand a FEMA credit card so they can get a big screen tv too. Okay.....rant over.........sitting quietly waiting for the meds to calm me down again..... Guiseppi

My sixth grade teacher mysteriously "left town" for an undetermined length of time. Dad told me he was in jail for something nasty but being in sixth grade, I really didn't get it....on top of that, all the kids hated the guy and our replacement; Mrs. Carlson, was exactly what a bunch of sixth graders needed. He was a nutcase in more ways than one and never shut up about buying an Edsel...didn't talk much about his other extra-curricular activities.........good for us Charlie
