What is the outside expiration date any of you have used imitrex vials/injections? Mine are from 2005, but my head won't cooperate and the medical community is useless so far, so I"ll risk my dropping dead with what they tell me prinzmettal angina (coronary artery spasms) will cause. Just wanna know if 2005 is too expired or should I use some others I have from here from 2007 that aren't mine? Cat

Catlind, I have used trex that was out of date by 2 years. It may not be as potent as fresh trex but it will work. If it is dark or cloudy don't use it. A slight off white to light yellow is normal. The trex says to store at room temp but it lasts longer if it is stored in the fridge. -P.

I've used very old Trex many times. It always helps As long as it's never been exposed to extreme heat or cold, it should be fine. UNsolved

| Well now Sean don't be silly, of course I wouldn't drink it, I'd get out my celery and carrots and have the cottage cheese with a fork And yes I've been told not to use it, or any other triptan or ergot for the risk of dropping dead; Weigh the risks, take an old triptan get guaranteed relief and risk a potential massive cardiac event, do nothing, hit breaking point when the knot at the end of the rope gives way, and do something that will be irreversible. I used the trex, twice in fact. Am getting more O2 today, and have been told by yet another neuro (think I'm up to 12 now) nothing left to do for me and surgery isn't approved (DBS) here (he's a great meegraine doc but I had to do alot of educating on CH for the poor man) so he said Botox, it works all the time, get Botox done and you'll be cluster free, it will break the chronic cycle. No I didn't kill him, I'd already dealt with the police once during my very short stay in the hospital. He then went on to tell me to go to the Diamond Clinic for the histamine treatment. I had just taken a drink of water and it spewed everywhere when he said that and I bust out laughing. I asked him if he would like to pay the bill for that since Tricare (tryandgetcare) doesn't cover that OR botox. His response? So save $500 for the botox meds, then save a little more for the doctor to do the procedure and you'll be fine. I responded with if I want to spend $500 on CH treatment it will be fly back to NECH and have a chat with Fred Sheftell or Stuart Tepper, not go see Diamond and go bankrupt or get rid of my wrinkles. There are several people who are lucky they are a) alive today, b) not severely impaired and injured c) able to still walk and talk without any bruises or broken bones. Cat is on a warpath the likes of which most of the folks on this board have never seen. Jacks and Jonny have seen it, he and Slammy got one started, best kick in the a$$ I ever got. There's no place for pity in this fight. Some mother fucker is going to suffer seriously for this, although that isn't a literal the way many will think. I'm talking more in terms of the beast and I'm about to become a very very loud squeaky wheel in some peoples ears that are going to hate me even more than they do now. Cat

I worked with a guy that was a medic in the Navy and he said that the expiration date was set by when the medication started to lose it strength, he said that it didn’t mean it was bad for you or anything just that it would not be as strong and you might have to take a little more to get the same effect as when it was new. Makes sense to me. Probably the pharmaceutical company’s way of trying to get you to through away perfectly good drugs so you will pay to get new ones and pay to line their pockets. Matt

| Cat, you keep being the squeaky wheel. I've used outdated trex too, and it was ok. Please be careful if you feel the need to use it. I would hate to lose you, and your wisdom. I understand how pissed off and frustrated you are. Please be careful. I just don't get it. I don't understand why your body doesn't just shut down when we are in this kind of pain. Why can't we just pass out? I just started another cycle, and it fucking HURTS. Constant eye pain, shadows that get worse until it's a hit. My face is numb on the left side. I'm thinking of you Cat. Hang in there, best you can.

Cat, Telling you to be careful right now is a waste of breath, but BE CAREFUL anyhow. I read in the OUCH newsletter that Goalsby (or however you spell it) is coming to UCSF (didn't say when or I missed it). Maybe - maybe, there's a way you can get in to see him. It's a light at the tunnel's end anyhow.. Right now I can empathize with you and don't blame you for wanting to KILL. Been there myself a few times with a few nincompoop so-called expert docs. Wish I could get you in to see my neuro. So far everyone I've sent to him have been totally elated with him. Keep us up to date so we'll know you're not in jail. Hugs BD

Tell me what I can do to help, Cat. Is there a medicine that is approved for you, that maybe insurance doesn't cover? I can help cover that for you. Tell me what I can do. Lizzie

What you can do for me Liz is take care of yourself. I am overwhelmed with the outpouring of support and love from the family here. Everytime I think I know this place, another miracle and joyous surprise is around the corner. Never underestimate the power of the support and love of the people in this extended family. Against the odds more than once, I'm still alive and I'm not about to go out without one HELL of a fight and really really big bang. I have been told when you reach the end of your rope, tie a knot and hold on. I'm good at gordian knots, and this place is the best damn knot on the planet. Barb, ya made me spew water with laughter again LOL. I'm still out of jail, although the officer that pulled me over tonight had that same half frightened look on his face that the one in the hospital had too LOL. Man I'm just a magnet for the law these days. Whoda thunk that a 6'2" physically fit officer would be slightly intimidated by a 5'3" overweight middle aged mother and housewife LOL. The angels have come out of the woodwork, and O2 is here, 8 tanks, and Alex and I have O2 and a terrific clustermasx (Brian, Ben I salute you), and this kitty cat is out for a fight and I don't lose when I make up my mind to take on a fight. Bigger and stronger things than clusters have tried to take me out, and they failed. This mofo isn't gonna win either. Yup it hurts like a bitch, and we all know that. But this is one bitch that can go psycho when the circumstances are right - and last time that happened I took on a military hospital and won - they had to close their doors, they lost their accreditation cause of trying to kill their patients. Alex, my 15 y/o is mad as hell at me for watching his 'everyfuckingmove' as he puts it, and I sat his a$$ down and told him that I will not stop watching, no kid of mine will go out before me - not on my watch. And this damnable head pain is not gonna get another victim - there are no victims in my house, there are survivors. I can't thank you all enough, and I will be careful. I used 2 shots last night, both 2 mg injects, and that was within what I *used* to be able to use. No adverse affects that I am aware of, although my mother called in a panic because Zelnorm was pulled from the shelf - stroke and heart attack related problem with it - and that combined with the lexapro seizures, and I've had both those meds for a couple years now, had her about out of her mind with worry; I won't add in playing russian roulette with triptans in any circumstance other than when there simply is no other acceptable option. Clark spent the night worried sick I was going to drop dead on him, I can't bear to put him or any other of my loved ones, family and friends, through that kind of fear. I woke up this a.m. to a 6 y/o throwing up and a fever of 103 and the oldest with a fever of 102, and a husband that came home and told his commander he needed a day of leave to take care of his family. I got to sleep til about 10 a.m. and that got me a renewed sense of fight. He ferried me around to the various doctors I had to see today and I have weapons in the arsenal now. O2 on board, medrol (sp?) (pred I guess) taper, and that should be enough to get me through this high cycle. They gave me what they call a 'loading dose' in the hospital, 800mcg of dexamethasone and a 14 day taper of .75mg with the standard taper. As much as I HATE prednisone, I'd forgotten just how much excess energy the medrol gives ya hehe. My house got a good cleaning (or at least a start on one) today, and the future has a much brighter outlook. I never cease to be amazed by the miracles this family can produce, and how so many of you know just exactly the right time to jump in to support a fellow sufferer. They say karma's a bitch, so you all are buggered, cause this bitch is gonna make sure there's an awful lot of good karma coming back at a whole bunch of angels in this family Cat
